Overview of potential anti-aging substances
health_nutty 10 Apr 2007
A short and interesting read:
http://www.lieberton...act.2006.12.268
Here are the supplements they say may be anti-aging:
• Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE)
• Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)
• Growth hormone
• Melatonin
• Carnosine
• Niacinamide
• Coenzyme Q10
• Resveratrol
• Glutathione
• Vitamin E
• Vitamin C
• beta carotene
• alpha-lipoic acid.
• Astragalus membranaceu
Here is my take:
Potential based on research:
• Melatonin
• Carnosine
• Coenzyme Q10
• Resveratrol
• Glutathione
alpha-lipoic acid.
Not helpful:
Niacinamide (inhibits SIRT1)
beta carotene
• Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)
• Growth hormone
Don't know:
Astragalus membranaceu

I've been taking DMAE for 3+ years, but a few months ago I doubled my dosage to 500mg daily. This is one more people should look into.

For anti-aging specifically?

Brain health. Apparently, it also reduces age spots.

I take DMAE, but only 150mg per day considering I am also taking other choline sources, 600mg of A-GPC (in Cognitex) and 150mg of Phosphatidylcholine (in LEF Mix) . Should I consider upping my dosage?

DMAE seems to be a good thing. Less Lipofuscin especially with carnosine's reported potential (not proven) ability to raise lipofuscin as a by product of protecting from AGEs. I take 200mg of actual DMAE from DMAE bitrate (100mg twice daily). As I mentioned in a previous thread if I take more it affects my cognitive abilities negatively (i.e. too many nootropics and the U dose response curve)

I'll be getting my supply of (-)BPAP on Thursday - starting dosage will be 1mcg working up to 3mcg per day - I'm very interested in what this will do since it's supposed to be 100 times more potent then deprenyl

Astragalus looks interesting. Thanks for the link curious sle http://www.imminst.o...=0
I have tried to find more information about the telomerase activating effect of it but the information is scarce and the extracts I have looked at are standardized for 0.5% Astragalosides or 70% Polysaccharides. But it is unclear as to which of these has the desired effect

Duke,
FYI:
1. you might check out this article if you have not seen it re: cautions of DMAE (I have not researched it enough to know if I agree):
http://www.1fast400....gredients_id=46
2. I like DMAE (though no longer take it) but I have...ADD like tendencies and so do well on stimulants (probably why I used to like Pramacetam...I've decided too stimulating for frequent use).
3. You might check out old threads on mind and muscle--a lot of people do not like the effects of DMAE (not sure if they are basing this on their experience, or Tolson's article).

very interesting Scottl, I was always under the impression that DMAE shared Centrophenoxine's effects especially with regards to lipofuscin... Mmm ill have to research this further... grrr, just when you think you have things figured out
