What to do when the damage is done?

Eva Victoria's Photo Eva Victoria 04 Feb 2008

We all are born with a natural repair system that effectively repairs UV induced damage.

The only drawback is that it can never repair 100% of the damage and the more UVA damage is done the less effective our own repair mechanism is :(

We all accumulate UV-damage over the years of our life time. It is unfortunately unavoidable.

But the good news is that we can minimize this damage by avoiding sun exposure, wearing protective clothing, brimmed hat, sunglasses and a high SPF with full UVA protection!

There is one effective naturally occurring substance in our skin that can help repair UVA induced damage effectively when applied topically every night.

It is said that it is a “miracle ingredient” or the closest we can get to miracles!

It is a naturally occurring Vitamin A derivate which exist naturally in the skin. Generic name: TRETINOIN.

This substance is degraded in skin when exposed to UVA light (or in the medical condition of Acne).

If it is applied in 0,05% every night it will reinforce skin`s content of Vit.-A hence letting the skin protect and repair itself better.

But why it is a miracle drug is because it “opens” up the receptors that are automatically shut down by UVA exposure. These receptors then can produce an enzyme that will produce new fresh collagen! Hence our skin has a chance to replace the UVA-degraded/destroyed collagen fibers!

That can be called a miracle! :)

But before you run down to the drug store you have to know this drug is RX only! It goes by several brand names (Janssen-Cilag/Ortho Pharma that holds the license). In the Us, UK: Retin-A; Scandinavia: Aberela.

It is successfully used to treat not only sun-damaged skin but also Acne!
