After informing a friend about customcapsule, they went ahead and designed this batch. Now, I'm a helpful friend indeed. I can see some combos wrong in it, ie some amounts too low, some possibly pointless (50mg green tea @ 50%?)... some are more spot on (Lutein, Lycopene). Apparently it's a 3 capsule serving size. Can anyone point out anything exceptional, or can I continue my criticisms and simply show them this post?

The amounts on most of the extracts are too low. Mangosteen extract is pointless.

It's less than a gram of stuff; that takes 3 pills? Maybe there's other things in there like flow agents... They don't say what the quality of the resveratrol is; if I was going to go to the trouble of making a custom cap, no way would I use anything less than 98%. The D3 would be better in a gelcap for absorption reasons, and 500 IU isn't enough. Lots of things here seem like not enough.
The amounts are for one capsule. If you take three the D3 total would be 3X500 =1500 IU, a reasonable amount. Their other choice is be to order three different capsules and pay the setup cost three times. I think it's a smart way to order from Custom Capsule.

Ok, that makes sense. I should have caught that. So the quantities are more reasonable. I'd still go with a gelcap unless there's a lipid component that the D3 is compounded with here. To be honest, I would rather take my drugs individually so I can more easily figure out what is causing a problem should one occur. You could use combinations for those drugs that are rarely a problem, and keep the weirder stuff as individual doses. It's less than a gram of stuff; that takes 3 pills? I love it. I use my Custom Capsules as a source of my trace metals, B vitamins, and then use the spare capsule space to give me solid amounts of Vitamin C and taurine. These capsules that gives me no vitamin blowback, unlike most multi's.
To make Custom Capsule price out low, you have to order a lot, so your suggestion to avoid the weirder stuff is a good idea. It would be a shame to have to throw the stuff out because of a reactions to ingredients. Sticking with basic stuff avoids that risk.

Noni? What for?
That much quercetin I would expect to inhibit Sirt1.
neogenic 18 Apr 2008
If I was doing a capsule I would use things that seem logical for dosing in capsule form. So you could stick with the rest, but bump up the dosing to more efficacious amounts.
BTW, why is the other custom capsule thread locked...is this company on the shady side?
mitkat 18 Apr 2008
@Maxwatt, what would be an optimum quercetin dose if to be included?

AFAIK, this company is totally legit. Now that I've been reading up a bit on them, I'm going to order some capsules of my own.

Most of the super fruit extracts are simply underdosed and just not needed here. Buy a bottle like NOW's Mangoni if that's what you want. http://www.nowfoods....l&item_id=92120
neogenic, are you forgetting to multiply by three, because the values posted are for one capsule, and the serving size is three.

Grape Seed Extract (95% OPC) 50 MG
Mangosteen Extract (10% Mangostin) 50 MG
Blackcurrant Fruit Extract 50 MG

Add up the fruit extracts and get 300 mg in one capsule. Times three is a total of 900 mg. This is the same amount in the two tablespoon serving in your link. 900 mg of fruit extracts. I don't understand why you think it is an underdose.

SOD
Catalase
Peroxidase
Glutathione
you would want to take a supplement that contains:
CoQ10
R-ALA
Acetyl L-Carnitine
Selenium
N-Acetyl Cysteine
All of these compounds have been proven to increase the main free radical scavangers in the body and act in synergy with each other (i.e. 1+1+1+1+1=8). CoQ10 is interesting because it has a direct effect on Complex III in the mitochondria. Complex III isn't an especially prolific free radical producer in the respiratory chain but helpful none the less.
Resveratrol and Metformin would be my next choices. The problem with the other plant based anti-oxidants is absorption, bioavailability, pharmacokinetics, etc... They are tough to get up to levels and in forms in the body that really help I think. Stay tuned for methylated/ethylated version of these phytochemicals though....especially resveratrol. I note Glaxo just bought Sirtris today.
