- survivability: due to the bacteria's ability to survive the manufacturing process and stomach acid and bile in high numbers.
- colonization: ability of the bacteria successfully colonize the gut
- lactic acid production: the bacterial is a prolific producer of the more beneficial isomer of lactic acid
