Not sure how much use dry vitamin D is going to be. I'll be waiting for a serum test, but I'll probably be supplementing 2k or so aside anyway. For those using only this, maybe 1.2k would be more appropriate, but who, who as done their research, is going to do that?

i accidentally voted for 1000, but intended to vote 1100. so, move one 1000-IU vote to 1100.

i vote 1100 because that's the dose the literature for all-cause cancer reduction supports.

edit: in all reality, though, i think the dose we use in this is largely for aesthetic purposes because just by taking a walk on a sunny morning increases d-vitamin levels about as much as a high potency supplement, if not more.

Pfft. Maybe if you're naked.

Hmm...

Note to self: Take more walks naked. You'll save 80 cents a month AND be amused.

1100 is good. My guess is this recommendation will come up a bit as more data comes in. But for now its the best amount.

A small price to pay for cutting down the dosage of vitamin D!

It looks like a majority of voters (54% right now) want more than 1100

Why such odd amounts??? (1100 and 1200)

A much better poll would have had these choices:

<1000

1000-1500

2000-3500

4000-5500

6000-7500

8000-9500

10,000

>10,000

(I take 10,000 daily.)

I'd like to see something in the 2ks included, that's going to be best for the majority of people.

It's very hard to say what's best for the majority of people due to variables such as location, skin colour, sunning habits, metabolism, weight, existing illness etc. I take 10k as well. 5000IU is probably the best worldwide median estimate.

Agreed, I would like to see between 2k-3k

Lean people easily get to almost 40-50 ng/ml w/ 1xxx IU. There's not enough strong evidence to suggest that either much more than 1000 IU is healthy nor that levels above 50ng/ml are. Caution's always better than harming people left and right.

I take 6-8k iu a day. Depends on how much sun I'm getting.

At least. 6k might be even better

I have a good diet so I would not take the full dose every day.

I think none would be a good amount, since vitamin D needs individual tweaking it gets dosed separately by many.

It's been over a year now. I've settled into 5000 iu D3 a day. I have to say it seems like D3 does more for me than everything else combined. It's been over a year since I caught a cold or flu. I went through this years Chinese New Year without getting the flu for the first time in many years. In the whole school only myself, and one other person remained well. At least half the school was sick at any given time.

Have the people commenting on levels had their levels checked, before and after Vit D supplementation?
I take 10,000 iu's per day, because it turned out 7500 IUs was not enough to get my levels above 45, which is where I want them for both longevity and anti-cancer effects supported in the literature. Granted, I stay out of the sun due to strong family hx skin cancer. But there is no chance that 2000 iu's is going to be harmful to anyone. I would have chosen 2000 iu's and let people supplement beyond that on their own... but Vit D will still require supplementation beyond this multi so there is no harm in a lower dose. My only point was that debating between 800 and 1100 iu's is irrelevant. Most people will need minimum 5000 iu's.

10K IU would send my levels to the moon. I've tested several times, and 2000 IU of an oil-based formulation plus 660 IU of dry (as part of a multi-component product) gets me to 53 ng/ml. People are all over the map on bioavailability of D3, plus we can have widely varying body weight and composition. Are you using an oil-based or a dry formulation? The dry ones are notorious for poor absorption.

Are these levels Vitamin D in general or specificaly D3 for 5000-10 000 iu's??
