Car of the future?

A941's Photo A941 16 Jan 2010

Recently i watched a documentary about the car of the future, it is said that cars will drive them self with the help of optical sensors, gps and so on.
But will we still drive cars like we do today?
I think, when this technology arrives, the insurance companys will force us to let our cars drive them self and sit back without touching the wheel, i think driving will lose the funfactor :)

What do you think?

I actually wouldn't mind a self-driving car. It's not that fun to drive, especially not on highways. Motorcycles on the other hand...

Automation of cars will probably come gradually, and I think it started a long time ago with things like ABS brakes. As new technology makes the cars safer, insurance companies and perhaps even legislation will demand that your car has this technology installed. So yes, I agree with you that we will one day be forced to ride autonomous cars. If you want to drive a car, you'll probably have to visit a race track.

Last November, I attended a car show and they said their New Mercury car, can parallel park itself. Anyone seen this or have this car?

I think the technology for cars driving themselves is coming real soon. Personally, I think the Sky Car would be fun.
