Cordyceps & "collagen degradation...

Clarity's Photo Clarity 25 Apr 2011

After doing some reading on here my husband and I are taking this. But I found some info that says cordyceps promoted collagen degradation. Wondering if this is a good thing or bad thing in regard to skin aging?

Cordyceps may promote liver health.
Researchers from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine proposed the use of Cordyceps sinensis
on liver fibrosis. In a study, they induced liver fibrosis in rats with dimethylnitrosamine and then they treated the
rats with Cordyceps sinensis. They found that the content of metalloproteinases-2 in Cordyceps sinensis-treated
group was significantly higher than that in the untreated group. Thus, cordyceps sinensis promoted collagen
degradation. [1]

Incidentally I had read on other threads that some users were experiencing sleepiness/fatigue after taking it. Because I have a tendency towards low blood sugar, that is the effect I experienced unless I eat something with my dose. As long as I do that, I do see the motivation inducing benefit of the supplement. It does say on my bottle to take with a meal.

I believe they're referring to Type IV collagen, not Type I (skin etc.)... I'm basing this on white papers I read, but don't have the links to at the moment (sorry).

I will say it gives me dryer skin on my face for sure.  Little white dry flakes on my face.

Why would we want to damage collagen IV?
