Then, something amazing happened: though promoting this effort, a far sighted investor has stepped forward who can see the potential in developing this research project. The angel has been in touch with Mondey and committed a substantial contribution towards a research arm that is closely aligned to the project LongeCity is funding.
Thus, we have achieved something amazing together: every dollar donated to this life extension research project has not only been doubled through internal funds but multiplied manifold! Few people, especially those with very limited personal means, who want to invest in life extension would find such effective opportunities to make a real difference!
After months of fundraising we are now delighted to announce that the project has started! Through many donations large and small, the community has raised sufficient funds to initiate the project. Last month, we passed the 80% mark and knew that full success would only be a matter of time.Update June 2011:

Mondey has recently confirmed that the funding has been received and, in accordance with our funding conditions send me a few preliminary pictures from her lab. I'll leave her to comment further on these and more importantly the research progress when she gets a chance to stop by.

Dear community,
I wanted to thank everybody involved in organizing the science competition, to all of you who donated money and for all the comments, ideas, questions and general support.
We have started the project (money transfers between organizations and administration is slow ) and hope to make it an interesting project for all of you. I will keep you posted with regular up-dates on our progress and hope that you will learn with us and participate in the development of the project.
Thanks for your help and greetings Dey
PS: more pictures will be comming soon. The mice are ordered and in the moment we are differentiating the cells and establishing the immuno stainings.

Hi,
here are some stainings of our first transplantations:
1) Slice staining of a section of the brain with Major Histocompatibility Complex-II (MHC-II)
antibody which is marker for macrophage and dendritic cells.

2) Slice staining of a section of the brain with ionized calcium binding adaptor molecule 1
(Iba-1) antibody which is specifically expressed in macrophage/microglia and it is upregulated
during their activation.

3) Staining of slice of brain section with amyloid precursor protein (APP) antibody. Proteolysis
of APP results in the beta-amyloid which is the main component of the amyloid plaques in
the brain of Alzheimer patients.

4) APP/PS1 mouse in which bone marrow-derived microglia cells are transplanted. These main contain human mutant amyloid and presenelin. They get the first symptoms after around ~ 6-9 months.

More to come.
If anybody has experience in this kind of research and would like to exchange protocols or antibodies I would be very happy.
Greetings,
Dey

suggestion: This project should be highlighted at the frontpage and in the main pages, with a 3 line description (a little like whay was done for the laser project)

This topic is currently in "Donor Hall of Fame". It should be in the list of science projects though shouldnt it? http://www.longecity...mmunityscience/
What is the latest news on this project?

Just in case people did not see this promoted elsewhere: Here is a recent podcast with the lead researcher: http://www.longecity...andra-stolzing/
