THREE new interesting life extending simpl...

2525's Photo 2525 20 Nov 2012

in Tim Ferriss book 4 Hour Body, there are 3 new theories, things that he recommends to do for life extension,
that have effect:

1.Donating blood (bloodletting)
every 8 weeks. is very good for the body.

2.For men, the more you ejaculate sperm, the fastest you age.
Studies showed that men who did not masturbate / have sex
lived 37% longer than those who were ejaculating every few days

This has to do with the spermogenesis, which is a very very hard
and difficult process for the body, to create DNA identical
spermatosoids with perfect genetical material.

3.For women, the more times you have sex, the younger you get,
because orgasms are like great exercise for female bodies.
It is not equality for sexes, but this is life:

For example, Joan Collins said in many interviews that the reason why
she looks like 40 years old, even if she is 76 years old,
is because she has a lot of sex everyday

Let's discuss your opinions on each one of these 3.
For me 2 and 3 theories make a lot of sense

1.) Not really new. The idea is to reduce iron load in men that need it.

2.) 37%? I'm strongly inclined to disbelieve this, but maybe the problem is that it's so hard to find men who don't masturbate or have sex. This one needs some literature backup. If there is anything to this one, I kinda doubt that it has much to do with spermatogenesis.

3.) Well, as a man, I have to say that's not fair... I guess this is a good argument for lesbianism. Or maybe a new pickup line? Wanna get younger? I can help!

sometimes I must admit that I always expected the discussions here on this forum to be more scientifical, serious and practical...

in the way that: what we can do to put these knowledges to action

Re:2 - Ejaculating less is good for mood and energy, anyway. If this is true, it only makes an existing good strategy even better: have lots of sex while ejaculating as little as possible.

Males might even start sharing the benefits observed in females that way.

I can't disprove it, but the ejaculation thing seems off to me.

Skeletal muscles and your brain have a "use it or lose it" functionality, so it would seem to follow that the rest of your body would as well. Wouldn't ejaculation tell your body that you're still a viable individual for procreation and that, health-wise, that would be a good thing? Maybe just a wrong-headed theory of mine.

This guy? http://en.wikipedia....Timothy_Ferriss
Doesn't look like he is aging particularly well IMHO.

I've heard #1 before, but I would caution against it if you are a runner (probably the body's own self-adjusting method there for meat eating runners).
#2 needs references of else is difficult to believe (moderation in all things usually works out to be best).

#2 is irrelevant to many men because it is considered an essential part of a happy & healthy life. I believe that life extension is only worth it if the practices involved are not detrimental to my emotional happiness.

However, I do agree that it can make one more tired and less effective for several hours afterwards.

Ejaculation is a non essential part of a happy & healthy life. The practice of Tantra results in whole body multiple orgasms for adepts and no ejaculation is necessary, in fact a person has to hold off from it to get there. Don't conflate "sex" or even "orgasm" with ejaculation, they are very distinct phenomena which on the surface do appear to be one and the same thing.

Looking for an abundance of citations before I begin to entertain this notion.

I have a very hard time believing anything Tim Ferris states in that book.
Why? Because this guy makes his money off of trying to find ways people can shortcut on healthy living.
This means that he will try to grasp everything that is as quick and easy as possible and (allegedly) generates the highest return of time invested. Which clearly leads to the least possible academic scrutiny of health/diet claims imaginable. Furthermore in a field where experts have the greatest difficulty trying to distinguish truth from falsity and accurately interpreting research results, why on earth would we trust this dude to tell us anything that is not completely 'bro-science'?

And point 2 is just laughable. Show me some proper studies on this that also allow us to point specifically to ejaculation and not for example to testosterone levels.

According to a recent survey by Bupa, a British insurer, four out of ten Britons would be willing to give up their sex life if abstinence could provide them to become centenarians. In contrast, three-quarters are not willing to do without? Money.

According to the survey conducted by Ipsos Mori on behalf of the insurer with 1,003 adults, 40% of Britons would therefore be willing to forgo the pleasure of the flesh, to live longer and reach 100 years.

However, there is a clear difference between men and women: only a third (31%) of men are willing to give up their sexual activity against almost half of women (48%) ... But that already live longer than men!

39% of respondents would be willing to give up eating and drinking to reach 100 years and 42% would be willing to stop traveling. However, the vast majority (94%) did not agree to abandon family and friends against the promise of a hundred. As for the money, 74% do not want to go without.

According to this survey, people aspire to live to an average age of 85 years, but more than half of respondents believe that researchers must continue to try to prolong life. In particular, to stay with family (16%) and to have the opportunity to see the grandchildren grow (14%).

Other information in this survey, which is not surprising: the notion of retirement is different for different generations. Among 16-24 year olds, we get old from 61 years against 71 years for more than 75 years.

Finally, two-thirds of respondents prefer to opt for a long life but wise, rather than a life ... intense but short.

More seriously. ;)
For point 2: it is the population of the former Catholic priests abstainers and men living in a monastery.
Other factors that could explain spermatogenesis single life more important.
Regularity of food intake, non-stressful social life ....

Semen retention is practiced by Taoists who essentially live the longest life spans on anybody on the planet to my immediate knowledge.

And they can do some pretty cool things that would otherwise kill you very swiftly as a direct result of cultivating this life force:

For the last time: orgasm =/= semen loss or ejaculation. Orgasm can be had without any loss of the life force.

You may define and explain what "life force".
Quote

BLimitless's Photo BLimitless 27 Dec 2012

The life force is what remains when you take food, and remove from it whatever is used to make faeces and urine. It would consist of the fundamental building blocks of life, that when applied to the digestive system, cause life to continue. Hence: life force. Yes it would be a set of chemicals, their associated reactions, metabolites, byproducts.

This is distilled in the body and splits up into many kinds of flows of matter; the outputs are muscle movement, working the organs, electrochemicals in the nervous system and the highest refinement of it: semen (or eggs).

Just because words like "Chi" are used does not mean they do not have biochemical meanings. It is more the case that western scientists tend to be too arrogant to open their minds enough to translate the language used between the two frameworks.

Il est à remarquer que la pensée actuelle concernant la mécanique quantique se rapproche de la pensée orientale (enseignement primaire du bouddha, Falun gong ....).

The book speaks of worms btw not men, and an ongoing study with bonobos.
There is no proof whatsoever that nofap will let you live longer and he doesnt claim there is.

thanks. If this is true, it kind of boggles my mind how the Original poster could misread the book so badly. According to the 37% figure, I should be dead already.
As far as the blood donation goes, I have been doing it for six months now, partly for iron reduction, but also partly for theoretical reduction in accumulated AGEs/misfolded proteins. Not sure how effective that actually is.
As far as the Author, Tim Ferris.... strikes me a chronic self promoter, with no great background in health sciences. I don't see any reason I would entertain health advise from him.

And you really believe these bigoted, uptight fags don't ejaculate? Made me laugh hard. Almost like a "laugh-ejaculation".

What a naive discussion...

More likely the 50% with complications after vasectomy. The most common are trivial, but some are scary, such as prostate tumors.

1 is true for active healthy males
2 might have some truth, but i believe at the least the pipes should be emptied 8 times a year, to keep sperm healthy and vibrant.
3 doubt it, while sex is good for the female body most of the time, having sex all the time i doubt adds more to ones life as running/swimming/yoga, if this is true then you'd expect to see female porn stars living past 100 and to my knowledge there is no longevity shown for porn stars that i am aware of.

I would add Drinking 8 ounces of water first thing in the AM will increase ones life span by 18% I've heard.

I enjoyed Tools of Titans! According to Charles Poliquin

“As a rule . . . the best thing to increase testosterone is to lower cortisol. Because the same raw material that makes testosterone and cortisol is called pregnenolone. Under conditions of stress, your body is wired to eventually go toward the cortisol pathway.”
(p. 78)

The "boner test"

“Men, if you wake up and you don’t have a boner, there’s a problem. Yes or no? One or zero? Boner, no boner?”
(p. 124)

I did a vlog review of the book, here
