Lutein

ironfistx's Photo ironfistx 04 Sep 2014

Some common supplements have 2mg of lutein, but then I have seen others that have 20 or 40mg. Is this something that taking more than the standard amount is bad? The average recommended guide is supposed to be on the lower end of what is found in most products.

The higher dosages in some products are probably the result of the AREDS 2 study on deterring hereditary macular degeneration and cataracts.  I think that study added 10 mg lutein and 2 mg zeaxanthin to the mix of the earlier study.  If you don't have a family history of any of those eye diseases, higher doses may not be appropriate.

Hey guys, question here: I have problems with my eyes. I'm myopic (like -8 dp on both eyes), due to bad genes and lot of reading and computer dont really help ;) Is there any supplement suitable for me? I mean, Lutein and stuff is well known to me, but mostly for macula deg. etc... Im not even 25 and I think my macula is OK. So it's more like the normal shortsightedness and stress. Any ideas?

Thanks.
