New found enthusiasm for Reishi Tea!
1337 27 Jan 2015
I have been experimenting with BDNF/NGF releasing agents for a bitnow and have made my way back to reishi. After hearing it can be an even greater releaser of said compounds than the Lions Mane Extract I have come to know and love, I set off to give Reishi another shot. Previous experimentation with reishi was cut short when I began to have nose bleeds when performing cunnilingus. Thats no good. It may have been the reishi or perhaps the rather large dosages of fish oil I consume daily...Its hard to say. Perhaps a lower dosage will allow me to have the "best of both worlds".
With ~5g per day in the form or tea right before bed, I am getting very strong effects akin to racetams. I am waking up in the mornings with bright, super-saturated visuals and superb razor-sharp contrast. Good mood uplift and a nice pleasant drowsynes are also characteristics I have come to expect. This reminds me very much of "peak" racetam experiences. .
I do have to say that this is right up there with the nootropic effect I recieve from Lions Mane extract. Very nice indeed.

Reishi is the king of mushrooms. I take dual-extracted Reishi small amounts throughout the day, and a bit more before bed since it decreases histamine-release and is good for sleep too. Try some Cordyceps in the morning, it's great energizer and goes well with Reishi. Both mushrooms improve sleep quality long-term.

What extract are you taking more specifically? I have gone through a bottle of Swanson's Reishi Mushroom using 3 pills in each serving and never had any obvious effect from it (although I believe my immunity improved considerably when considered in retrospect).

It's a bulk extract sold locally here, so unfortunately not available elsewhere. But try to find a product that is extracted with both water (polysaccharides) and ethanol (triterpenoids) to get all the therapeutic effects of the mushroom. Life Extension's Reishi extract should be one I think.

Reishi can cause nose bleeds in the beginning of use
Galaxyshock 29 Jan 2015
Water extracts of reishi don't contain a high amount of the triterpenoids. Triterpenoids are responsible for the alpha reductase inhibition aka lowering dht... Ironically the triterpenoids produce the ngf/bdnf effects as well. Reishi is an extremely powerful mushroom regardless of the triterpenoids . I'd take high doses everyday if it wasn't for the dht lowering effect.

Perhaps the lowered DHT leaves more energy for higher brain functions when the hormone-driven "dominance games" are left out. Just some broscience hehe. I feel a tingling sensation on top of my skull when Reishi kicks in and sense of wisdom opens up my perception. I take creatine to compensate for the DHT a bit and also Cordyceps for steroidogenesis.

Galaxy, what dosage do you use. Is it a standardized extract? Thank you!
Extract standardized to 30% polysaccharides and 2% triterpenes.
I usually take 1/3 teaspoon three times during the day, and one full teaspoon at night before sleep.
The first dose in the morning I mix in coffee along with Cordyceps, starts the day very nicely.

Thank you. Could you be so kind and messure the weight of Reishi per teaspoon?
Btw. the LEF Reishi contains 13.5% polys. and 6% triterp. per serving (two capsules; 30 servings per package).
Galaxyshock 30 Jan 2015
I don't have a scale to accurately measure, I'd say one level teaspoon is about 1 - 1,5 grams. LEF extract has stronger triterpene-content I see. I'd split one capsule to two doses during the day and take the other cap at night. Or if you find it sedating then just take the full serving before sleep.

Anyone here used cracked-cell resihi spore powder before? I've been a long time fan and believer of reishi, but sadly I've never "felt" anything from it, despite it being the number one "shen" substance in TCM, said to increase spiritual abilities and etc. However, the reishi spore powder I used did give noticeable calming, mood brightening effects. I bought it from rawforestfoods.com, but unfortunately now they don't sell it straight, but instead mixed with reishi extract powder. The spores are said to be super concentrated in triterpenoids.

I've tried cracked spores and spore oils and they never produced as intense effects for me as a potent alcohol extract. As far as I know spore oil is especially beneficial for cancer treatment but when it comes to Shen or effects that can actually be perceived and change perception, wild reishi dual extract is your bet.Anyone here used cracked-cell resihi spore powder before? Does anyone know about the dosages of straight up Reishi mushroom? I'm going to grow them. I have the bag of wood pellets and a whole bunch of other stuff to do so.

Maybe bit too radical next level: from product page: "Warnings: The use of this product will expose you to lead, a substance known to the state of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm."

I have tried the 22 reishi's and I have tried spore oil that I bought on ebay. The spore oil I bought might have been low quality but I got it from a respected ebay vendor. I never felt much from the spore oil. The 22 reishi's is good because it is broad in it's effects and contains some other polypore mushrooms that are beneficial other then different ganoderma types. But personally I think their wild reishi and duanwood reishi tinctures is better value and especially the wild one gives me a noticeable calming and centering effect.

This is US in a nutshell (sorry for the flaming), but just because a general study on different supplement from China showed that some contain lead, they now mark EVERY supplement that has it's source in china as will expose you to lead. Stupid and so many people get scared away with this warning and miss out on some great supplements for your health. Dragon Herbs is one of the most respected herbal supplement companies in the world.

Was about to point this out. Part of Californias Prop 65, out of which Dragon Herbs is based. Lead's no joke, and I've never sent to have any of these products tested, but this is now a mandatory label, so take that with a grain of salt.
22 Reishis was initially pretty intriguing, but after looking up some of the other types of reishi in there, many of them have weaker effects than good ol wild red or purple reishi. I've bought a few dragon herbs products and I have to say, I loved their Purple Reishi extract's flavor - bitter but in the most enjoyable, almost chocolately way.
Still wanting to try many of Ron's other reishi products.

Yeah the Purple reishi is good stuff, not as much 'shen' as wild red reishi but is said to benefit the 'jing' more. Speaking in TCM terms.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, I might give Dragon Herbs' products a try later. For now my bulk extract is doing very well though.
Also adding some dual-extracted Chaga to my mushroom stack.
