Astaxanthin for skin

Delorean's Photo Delorean 13 Mar 2015

I started taking 4mg astaxanthin a little while ago for it's potential to improve skin tone/health but I've since read about it being used as a potential supplement for weight loss. With this news, I feel like I have a decision to make because my main skin issues are dark circles, and with my general skin tone not being satisfactory. I believe a large contributor, certainly when it comes to my dark circles, is subcutaneous fat loss. I spent a good portion of my life underweight which probably worsened that.

So really i'm trying to weigh up the risk vs the benefits of this right now. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether they'd still be taking astaxanthin if they were in my position? Are any potential subcutaneous fat loss concerns warranted?

Take the astaxanthin for skin tone/health/uv protection.......by no means would I be concerned about it causing fat loss itself.

Harmless.

I'm dubious that it offers any significant advantages over the far more abundant lycopene and β-carotene found in foods. Its only a slightly more efficient physical quencher, but I'm getting 34 mg lycopene in every cup of tomato based pasta sauce.
