High Cholesterol

What is a good way to lower your cholesterol in addition to your diet? Does Red rice or anything else help lower it? I am using natures made cholestoff but it isn't coming down as well as I would like.

how much are you taking? how high was your cholesterol? how is your diet...getting enough fiber?
exercising?
btw, natures made is a crappy grocery store brand i think? youde do good to stay away from brands like that
2 of these a day, for 3 months... then get it checked again
http://store.yahoo.c.../redyeast2.html
and you have to take CoQ10 while taking redyeast rice... 1 per day

Effective ones:
a. Garlic, look for ones with:
>> Alliin - at least 10mg/tablet with
>> Allicin potential of 4 mg /tablet
good brand is Garlinase (Enzymatic Therapy). no need to worry about the odor here.
Be careful if you're taking Aspirin, or other anticoagulant or some antihypertensive medications while on it. The same thing with blood glucose drugs.
b. Guggulsterones 25 - 75 mg or Gugulipid. NOT FOR LONG TERM USE, might want to keep off for a while then resume intake. Syntrax, Life Extension Cardiovascular Formula , Source Naturals
c. Psyllium Husk fiber - 15-30g /day Colonix, blessed herbs

Policosanol. Will take a good while to ramp up to be real effective. There is some combination product http://store.yahoo.c...holestout2.html that looks somewhat ok.

Bowl of 100% oatmeal everyday, preferrable before noon so you get the benefits of its extended blood sugar lowering effects, too. I'd add protein powder to the oatmeal after it's cooked, and I would not use milk, including soy milk.
Fish oil will help a lot.
Also, lots of fiber, up to 80 grams a day.

great recomendations... although 80 gms of fiber a day is enough to make most people randomly crap their pants throughout the day. if you use supplemental fiber, use a mixed soluble/insoluble complex
oatmeal + chocolate whey = MMMMM [thumb]

Fibre (as mentioned), take a balanced ratio of EFAs, be healthy so cholesterol doesn't need to be sent out for repairs, and exercise. That is all. Don't lower cholesterol any other way. Yes, the first two are dietary, I assumed by diet you meant avoidance of cholesteral intake. I would not be concerned with that.

What are EFA's? Ajnast4r,your comment about the fiber cracked me up! I will try the red rice and I am already taking 100mg of CoQ10 daily. I also take 2 of the fishoil capsules daily you suggested. I will also add the oatmeal in there since I could afford to have more fiber in my diet. I do workout but I have been getting lax lately, will try to ramp that up more....Thanks
