Causes of Low Renin (--> Low Aldostero...

Kierkegaardian's Photo Kierkegaardian 12 Feb 2017

I have hyporeninemic hypoaldosteronism, i.e., low renin leading to low aldosterone.  Screwily, I also have (at least according to my last labs) hypokalemia-level RBC potassium levels.  Chloride, potassium, and sodium are all at the low end of the range for a comprehensive metabolic panel.

Any thoughts on the cause of low renin?

the lab ranges for aldosterone and renin can be 0-?

what is low?

interesting... how is your blood pressure? do you take any medications?

what was the total CO2 or (bicarbinate) on those labs?may have had mild alkalosis, in which aldosterone would only make worse.

normally you would see low renin/low aldosterone when sodium is normal or high. the only time you normally see aldosterone high is when you are either volume depleted or hyponatremic. or in response to low blood pressure.

hypokalemia is common with hyperaldosterone

Perhaps you should see an internist rather than seeking help on a message board?
