Substances for reversing SSRI induced sexu...
Starchild1337 07 Feb 2018
SSRIs are well known to cause temporary and often even permanent sexual dysfunction. The mechanism is not known for sure but some believe it has to do with downregulating norepinephrine and dopamine receptors. Too much serotonin supposedly does that.
Is there a substance, that would do to norepinephrine or dopamine the exact same thing an SSRI does to serotonin (and subsequently the other neurotransmitters)? Like, if an SSRI makes you permanently blunted and way too relaxed because now you have more serotonin or more serotonin receptors, and less dopamine and norepinephrine, is there a substance that would make you more excitable, make your fight or flight system more ready, make you produce less serotonin or downregulate your serotonin receptors and increase permanently norepinephrine and dopamine?

A serotonin reuptake inhibitor doesn't work on serotonin like a dopamine reuptake inhibitor does on dopamine? I've done both SSRIs and dopamine reuptake inhibitors and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, but the later two don't make any permanent changes to my system. Once you stop doing them, you feel a little bad for a few days and then you're back to normal. After SSRI treatment you are NOT the same person, ever again. You're like blunted forever. That must mean it doesn't work in the same way.

I've found plain old water fasting to really be the best treatment for any sort of neurotransmitter issue.
When you fast you not only lose the amino acids necessary for producing the neurotransmitters, your insulin also drops which lowers monoamine (and glutamate) activity.

Fasting does nothing for ssri sexual dysfunction. I know/knew someone who was doing CRON and suffering from ssri withdrawal and is still dealing with it over 4 years later.I've found plain old water fasting to really be the best treatment for any sort of neurotransmitter issue.

The tried and true ED drugs and Yohimbe are the only things that work. There are anecdotal reports from 1 or 2 people about metergoline and lisuride.... But I don't see other people having results and reporting them.
I myself use lisuride for other reasons and see no change in libido at all. Onpaper it should affect libido in the positive, but I see no change. The same is true of requip and prami but there are no positive reports out there.
If anyone can fix ED they will be a billionaire.

How long are you fasting?

At least one day

So are there any substances that would permanetly upregulate my dopamine and norepinephrine? Make me more excitable?

You're asking the same question as everyone else, just phrased differently.

I've posted and cited this in many other threads on this forum:
5mg per day Lithium Orotate upregulates tyrosine hydroxylase, an enzyme that converts tyrosine to L-Dopa using vitamin B6 as a substrate. Take both of those for sure, a dose of tyrosine might not hurt but keeping the enzyme high and precursors available will at the very least optimize the situation.
In addition to this, inhibiting MAO-B will keep dopamine from being taken back up, EGCG (on an empty stomach) and supposedly Rhodiola can both do this.

As far as my SSRI induced sexual dysfunction goes I don't think any nerves down there are desensitized or numbed. I know this because when I take modafinil or some other stimulant that works on dopamine or norepinephrine, I get sexually aroused with no problems and the sensation down there is as it was before. So it's all in the brain I think.

Depends on the SSRI i guess. Prozac for example didn't affect my premature ejaculation at 40mg and at 20mg was speedy almost. Luvox on the other hand lengthened it from circa 1 minute to like 5 minutes give or take and taken with alcohol You couldn't jizz at all. Also caused dry glans penis and zaps when going off, which is weird.
To me those drugs are benign, but I had sexual problems even before SSRIs. Lack of sides notwithstanding, I can say there is much of a benefit anyway. Luvox lack of inhibition is huge, but tiredness makes it a useless drug. And it also turns alcohol into much more potent drug than usual.

Ordered the Saffron I linked from iherb, since nobody had any better recommendations. I hope it's gonna work.
Currently I think of sex like every 4-5 days and even then there is not as much desire as there used to be, and erection quality is poor.

The empty stomach EGCG with Rhodiola and B6 along with a full stomach lithium orotate later is the bomb for these issues, trust me, I've not had any issues since I started this and I was having issues for a long time. It also doesn't hurt to have some viagra standing by in case you drink a bit too much lol.
I also think a bottle of legit saffron will help, you really only need a small pinch each day until the problem is resolved, outside of that you never really need to touch the stuff again. It does the job of reversing any SSRI induced dysfunction.

Tried it. It doesn't for me :(
Taking zinc regularly helps a little bit, but that used to make me like 20% hornier even before SSRI treatment, and increases the amount of ejaculate.
Still haven't found a fix for this horrible problem. It's not total ED, but my boner is soft and I don't really have a high interest in sex, or seeking partners for sex. It's all psychological. When I take modafinil which works on dopamine, erection quality is increased and sex is way more pleasurable. But I can't get it because of customs.

have you tried Maca (make sure its black maca the other types dont work for this), Boron (9 mg/day), and Aspartic Acid?

One thing that confuses me a lot is why do I have rebound boners the next day if I take bromazepam at night? If anyone knows the exact mechanism of why that would happen, it may uncover the cause of my problems. If I take bromazepam tonight, in the morning I'll wake up with a rock hard erection and be very horny. Does that happen to anyone else or just me?
voyteck 27 May 2019
I took lorazepam recently and didn't have this effect.
My main issue is lack of libido. I get night/morning wood every few days lately - with no effect on libido of course.

Bupropion might be a solid choice for SSRI-induced sexual dysfunction, anorgasmia...
It could also help somewhat with "blunted affect" and tiredness which SSRis can sometimes cause.
I've never heard that benzos like bromazepam have a positive (rebound) effect on erections.
When people overdo benzos or get addicted to them they can lead to sexual dysfunction, reduced libido...
