Good News! The Antichrist Is On His W...
Singularity 31 May 2009
Antichrist simply means antireligion, and I will welcome "him", or "it", with open arms... whatever form it takes... be it a new vaccine, surgery, drug, whatever, for he is our true savior. Prometheus, lover of mankind and punished by Zeus for bringing mankind the gift of fire (knowledge). Yes, he is coming, but he will only use drastic measures as a last resort... and it will get messy if you don't act now to come up with a more humane way to deal with this pandemic.
Can you see??? The blunt force of the Antichrist wave is coming. Either we can, by starting now, intelligently mold the force into a finer instrument for a less evasive surgery, or we can just wait for the wave to hit at full force. Either way, it's coming and everyone knows it. Just read the news. This is bigger than global warming. The pimple is coming to a head.
So, what are you standing around for? Get moving! He's on his way!

What they have been fooled to believe, which is part of the sickness - wishful thinking, is that the Antichrist LOSES in the end. But, the truth is that he actually wins...

This podcast, at http://elijah3.podbe.../poorsaints.mp3, will explain the Antichrist for you.
All attempts to obfuscate this issue should be resisted and ignored. It's real simple, superstitious thinking needs to be cured and replaced by a scientific understanding of the mind; and this needs to be done in time before the Antichrist arrives with his army and destroys the Religion Meme in a way that is damaging to the hosts.
Please note, I'm not trying to be ambiguous and confusing when referring to the Antichrist, as if he really is an intelligent being or entity while simultaneously denouncing religion. I am merely anthropomorphizing a psychological and sociological force that opposes the force of darkness (ignorance).
But, it is clear that the battle will move from the abstract to the physical, thanks in part to the radical M-u+s*l@ims who are accelerating the process.

That's why we need machines to improve us and riddle us of our shortfalls. That's the idea of transhumanism. In your words, the Antichrist will be the machines we'll merge with.
If not with machines, the only way i can see of riddling humanity of religious thinking is not allowing humans with a high tendency for religious mentality to exist. That would require us to have a deeper understanding of genetics so that we don't allow certain sorts of people even to be born. But then this spirituality forum would be boring because we wouldn't have elijah3 around =/

Singularity, do you believe that most humans, as stupid and weak as they are, will be able to endure a culture of supreme realism where the only way they have to deal with reality is to face it objectively? Most humans aren't able to live without superstition of some sort.
They simply will not have a choice. If you aren't improving, you're dying. There is no in-between. This reality cannot be avoided. Besides, it's not as hard as you suggest.

Most likely. But, I am starting to think that it would be preferable to improve the brain first and save augmentation for tools that connect us or give us access to information.

No, learning objectivity is easy. But, yes, some brains seem to resist it and I view those brains as pathologically defective. I do not believe it would be a good idea to remove irrationality so much that we fail to be able to understand other irrational agents. Understanding all forms of cognitive processes will always be useful, if for no other reason than to understand a potential adversary. But, a certain level of irrationality is probably useful, at least in a creative thinking-outside-the-box sense.
However, completely believing in something as fact that actually has no evidence supporting it whatsoever is just a form of lying; lying to oneself. Nothing good can come of this. And trying to convince others of an untruth is simply dishonest.
