A few years ago the spin traps PBN and ntBHA made news. they were antioxidants that were completely devoid of proxidant activity, and were capable of lengthening the life span of rats.

These facts interested more than the people of longecity, capturing the attention of the pharmaceutical company Astrozeneca whom developed the drug Cerovive, which they hoped would prevent and stop damage from ischemic stroke. the first trial SAINT-1 proved the were right, stopping half of the damage that would normally be present. however, quite unfortunately and unexpectedly the second trial SAINT-2 showed no positive results. it was later hypothesized that Cerovive actually had naturally forming hydrolysis products that were the cause of the extreme neuroprotection, though the trials and the drug had been stopped mid production.

The opportunity to have one of the most powerful neuroprotectants ever designed was given up, but now that several years have passed, and the search for something to cure neurodegenrative diseases like Alzheimers(and the need for a radioprotectant for space missions) is at an all time high, I believe that we should try and find the contaminants of Cerovive/PBN/ntBHA and determine what gave such dramatic results. Was it just ntBHA or some sort of chemical complex that offered the protection? please leave an answer to help use get to the bottom of this.

I was thinking of adding ntbha to my list of anti oxidants. I can't find any toxicity studies on ntbha, nor can I find any retail sellers.

Have you seen the recent results about glutathione in animals near Chernobyl?  This supports the hypothesis that  NAC supplementation could protect against radiation in space travel.
