cure for hiv? +possibly for influenza,bird...

opales's Photo opales 11 Feb 2006

Of course these are preliminary results but as possible targets are hiv, influenza, bird flu, small pox and herpes, this could be the biggest thing in medicine ever (before the ENS technologies arrive of course).

If this Is true It has made my day. If we can cure a virus we have finally made headway in the medical field that will show the world that we are still evolving at a super fast pace and that the singularity is near.

It seems this piece of news did not make as much headlines as I thought it would, thus perhaps (but not necessarily) suggesting it was not being considered anything seminal. BBC did report it, but not many other places.

Anyway, I read few comments on the aids google groups, they were mostly disbelieving. One commentary was that Brigham Young has the habit of producing false expectations, ie. other "breaking" treatments have been reported from there which later have turned out false alarms.

I think this link is a little better comming from yahoo and researching the story it seems its catching on but Vanderbilt and Byu dont wanna hype it before clinical tests and at best its still 7 years away. The clincher is that if proven true we have found molecules that can destroy viruses. So much for not being able to cure the common cold:)

The link in this story seems to be dead. Just wondering if anyone remembers what this particular breakthrough was. This is perhaps a good reminder to include a significant quote from the article, that way some other types of data can be traced, if the link has gone dead.

Just in case anyone cares, it's called CSA-54, and it was licensed to FirstPoint Biotech in 2008.

archive.org ftw!

Probably mostly hype, but Firstpoint biotech should be coming out with something "soon".
I believe it takes about 3 to 7 yrs to bring it to market.
