CR extends primate lifespan by up to 50%

Matt's Photo Matt 06 Apr 2018

I had no idea that this study had been going on until today. The effect of CR seems to be quite strong in this species as well... and even better when you factor out the deaths caused by falls (cranial damage), anesthesia etc.. Deaths from non-age related causes seems to be quite high in the CR group. The same thing was true in the rhesus monkey studies also..

Two issues I've always thought people on CR should be careful about are accidents and infections. Though, we can do a lot of things to reduce the risk of these...

So, anyway...  median lifespan:

calorie restriction = 9.6 years

control group = 6.4 years

Age-related mortality is 60% lower in the CR group.

37% of the CR animals are still alive, and all the controls are dead.

19 animals were placed on CR, 7 of them so far have reached 13 years, which exceeded the maximum lifespan for the species.(previously 12).

I published an article with some of my thoughts here: http://www.crvitalit...small-primates/

And you can read the full paper here:  https://www.nature.c...2003-018-0024-8
