Wow! Are you rich? What various stimulants are you using? No crystal meth I hope? :(
No, the various stimulants refer to stuff I use rarely in a crunch: ephedrine, caffeine, nicotine, Ergopharm Amp, etc.
ajnast4r 07 Jun 2006
whats that costing you? 500, 600$ a month?
hopefully ur putting as much money & effort into your food?
kenj 07 Jun 2006
While I'd assume you have done a search or two on all of this you should keep in mind many of these substances in higher doses (noting Arginine, Glutamine, caffeine, Carnosine dependent on genetic factors) may elevate your histamine leading to allergic reactions (sympathetic responses) in the long run -- which 20000+mg Quercetin would NOT be able to handle.
I definitely wouldn't mix all this with any semi-harder substances, not even occasionally.
I would be curious how you handle all these pills? Do you organize this in a small container divided in daily servings?

What is Glucuronolactone?
ajnast4r 07 Jun 2006
Not too far from what I do Shepard, though I'm not nearly as regimented with regard to what time I day I take my stuff. I take about 110 pills daily, a morning batch, a small afternoon batch, and an evening batch. Plus, I add a bunch of supplements to my morning oatmeal.
What is Glucuronolactone?

Maybe I should add in diet, and what I wash my hair with, etc. Just like old times.
But, diet is good. I don't say that I restrict any foods (in that, at some point of the year, I'll probably have some of everything). But what I would consider unhealthy meals are kept low...1-2 month...more if I am forced to eat out a lot.

I have a scary-good memory. I just walk into my closet when it's pill time and get to popping.
zoolander 07 Jun 2006
I would consider taking the melatonin before bed.
Have you considered
1. Galantamine (have a read of Synthesis and Pharmacology of Galantamine)
-I have had some great results with galatamine. beware of the nausea though. I recommend that you do some reading first
-I recently recommended galantamine to a friend. Positive result for them as well

You don't happen to own & run any nootropic companies we should probably be aware of? [lol]

Are you rich or something? I can understand Duke Nukem taking that amount of stuff, CEO salary and all that...

From a health standpoint, he argues that the cardiovascular benefits can be obtained with ALA, and that no benefit results from consuming more than 1-2 servings of fish a week anyway.
His original notes with links to references can be found here: http://www.cron-web....ts-guide-5.html
From my own knowledge of the subject, DHA has not been shown to do much of anything useful in adults that was not later attributed to the EPA content of the fish oil. We also know that the human body, when provided with ALA, will convert a much larger proportion of it to EPA rather than DHA (5:1 or 5:2)
sentrysnipe 08 Jun 2006
Now if I could only obtain all these stuff. I'm thinking of applying for a loan.
Shepard 08 Jun 2006
Shep, what do you think of MR's position on supplementation with highly-unsaturated fatty acids? DHA is exceptionally vulnerable to peroxidation, and he notes that mitochondrial inner membraine "peridoxizability" is inversely associated with maximum lifespan. Feeding rodents DHA increases the DHA content of their mitochondrial membranes. Also supporting the idea, CR reduces "peridoxizability" of these membranes by reducing their highly-unsaturated fatty acid (in particular, DHA) content. CR reduces desaturase activity in humans.

I've found MR's argument to be very interesting. I haven't quite made up my mind, yet. Two things hold me off from swapping to an EPA dominant fish oil (or just swapping to flax): the mountain of evidence for fish oil in the traditional ratios, and some evidence I read a long time ago regarding EPA vs. DHA and the beneficial aspects of DHA on the cardiovascular system (and with it, the insulin sensitivity effects). There was also mention of DHA being needed to convert to EPA in times of stress, but I haven't delved into that enough to form an opinion on it. If I'm wrong and haven't kept up with the newest research regarding EPA vs. DHA and the cardiovascular system, please let me know. I'll go back over Michael's arguments and see if he references the studies that I saw before, I'll also try to dig those up.
I also thought someone was going to post their own regimen. Now I'm all alone and left hangin'.

After some deliberation, I'm cutting my supplement regimen a little...by approximately $85 or so a month. I haven't quite decided what is getting cut yet, and I'll post up when I do. Opinions are welcome, too.
Just noticed your new sig, it appears that the $85 you save by cutting back on supps is being well spent elsewhere. Welcome aboard [thumb]

It seems I am all talk with my Mprize love. I got to step up to par with Shepard. I'll do it with the first shirt. Hold me to my word, opales; I know you will! Peace.

1. If you take flax, you need to take GLA..I suppose I should post this as a seperate topic and explain.
2. It is a crapshoot hoping the body will convert enough ALA into ePA. There are lots of things that interfere, and if you look at the studies you see varied rates probably for several reasons. How do you know which rate your body is?
3. Fish contains both. See this article....doesn't really prove anything...still a hint...

why is that? i know the same enzyme is responsible, but unless your taking 30-40g ALA... i dont see how there would be a problem

as long as you are not nutritionally deficiant & not consuming an excess of omega6... then there should be no problem converting. all the studies ive read are flawed in that: 1) there is no monitoring of the factors that contribute to decreased conversion (as mentioned above), and 2) that conversion is a very long process, something like 120hours to peak. to get from ALA to EPA takes a few days. to get a real idea of conversion rates you would have to administer flax for a few days, and check a week later.
scottl 11 Jun 2006
and prefers the flax. what are you basing:
"unless your taking 30-40g ALA".
on?
1 tablespoon=15 g. 2 tablespoons=30 grams not an unreasonable dose.
2. "as long as you are not nutritionally deficiant & not consuming an excess of omega6... then there should be no problem converting."
Based on?
The studies are all over the place and like many conversions there is variability. Fine the studies are biased. So there is no data then to back up what you say (or is there?). DOn't forget also not everyone eats as healthy diet as you.
I believe there are other confounding factors e.g. sat fat, trans fats...B vit deficiencies perhaps others (? mineral)
Bottom line if I take EPA (or EPA/DHA) I know what I am getting. You cannot know how much you are getting.
Also this is one thing if one is 30 and taking it for prevention, and more vital if one needs or wants larger doses which ain't a bad idea to prevent inflammation, hearet disease, lower triglycerides, etc.

guessing the amount of ALA it would take to throw off the normall 3/6 ratio people usually consume. just a guesstimate
1 tablespoon=15 g. 2 tablespoons=30 grams not an unreasonable dose.
1 tablespoon = 12g total fat... only 8g ALA
so thats 4 tablespoons if flax per day to reach 30 grams ALA... people only usually consume 1-2 tbsp
2. "as long as you are not nutritionally deficiant & not consuming an excess of omega6... then there should be no problem converting."
Based on?
based on the factors that inhibit the conversion to begin with.
The studies are all over the place and like many conversions there is variability. Fine the studies are biased. So there is no data then to back up what you say (or is there?). DOn't forget also not everyone eats as healthy diet as you.
no data, but i have a good working knowledge of the process... so i think i can make some safe asumptions. the fish oil companies give low conversion numbers, the flax oil companies give high conversion numbers... so if you use a number right in the middle, the conversion is still more than adaquate.
i know most peoples diets arent great... but i would imagine most here are pretty close to mine.
I believe there are other confounding factors e.g. sat fat, trans fats...B vit deficiencies perhaps others (? mineral)
yup, trans fat, b, zinc, a few other things i forget off the top of my head.
