Veteran Sports: Case Bodybuilding

proileri's Photo proileri 27 Jul 2015

There seems to be a current trend that we are seeing the popularity of 'veteran sports' soar - a local term for all kinds of competitive or goal-oriented sports for people over retirement age. For example, during the last decade or so, there have been numerous official records made in track and field sports in 100+ age class - even in most demanding sports such as marathon running.

I have noticed that this is also visible in the world of bodybuilding, where the US National Masters competition (amateurs 35+) is slowly pulling more and more participants in classes of over 60, 70 and 80 year old. I'm not that familiar with the US organisation or what the requirements are, but it seems to paint an image of what's to come - senior citizens more and more interested in seriously developing their bodies and athletic ability.

For the bodybuilding 2015 Masters, there's a results / image gallery located at http://www.musculard...ml#.VayjGxOqpBd

This year, it seems there was only one participant for the 80+ class (a former 70+ competitor), 9 participants in the 70+ class, and 26 in the 60+ class.

If you're wondering, this is what an 82 year old bodybuilder James Arrington looks like:
