Sigh
Wed Nov 07, 2012 3:18 am
I drove away. I passed a church made of coral. It was built in the mid 1800's. Their officials recently decided to dig up their graveyard to build a recreation center. The ethnic group these people belong to reveres their ancestors and dislikes their bones being disturbed. After the project went forward a city bus went off course and crashed into their historic rock wall. Along with the place I usually pray, this is probably the most beautiful historic religious building in town. I drove past it.
I drove to a church I'd seen before. It was full and there was a service being preached in Samoan. Tried a Catholic church because I thought they were more likely to be open. It was locked. Went to another Catholic church. There was a creepy gravestone memorializing the unborn on the way into the church. Inside it reeked of too sweet perfume, evenly spread all over. Tried another Catholic church but it was closed and had icky seventies architecture. The stained glass looked plastic. Sigh.
