This a a Bowie song but I like this version by Marilyn Manson best.

I'll stick with you baby for a 1000 years, nothing's going to touch you in these Golden Years.

Now that your knowing, pleasure starts flowing, it's true life flies faster than eyes could ever see, you're here today, no future fears, this day will last a 1000 years, if you want it to.

Seasons don't fear the reaper, nor do the wind, the sun or the rain, we can be like they are, come on baby, don't fear the reaper, baby take my hand, don't fear the reaper, baby I'm your man.

"Fame! I wanna live forever" :)

"Now, it's been 10,000 years. Man has cried a billion tears."

And, finally, a line from Neva Dinova's 'Poison' (couldn't find a clear YouTube clip):

"Drinking blood don't keep me young/
It's just the taste on my tongue/
That makes me stay up late and talk/
Destroy yourself. What the fuck."

Michel Fugain : je n'aurai pas le temps

Je n'aurai pas le temps
I can't have enough time
pas le temps
enough time

même en courant
even running
plus vite que le vent
faster than the wind
Plus vite que le temps
swifter than time

Même en volant
even flying
je n'aurai pas le temps
I won't have enough time
pas le temps
enough time

de visiter toute l'immensité
to explore the immensity
d'un si grand univers
of such a vast universe

même en cent ans
even a hundred years hence
je n'aurai pas le temps
I wouldn't have had enough time
de tout faire
to do it all

j'ouvre tout grand mon coeur
I try opening my heart
j'aime de tous mes yeux
and loving all I can see

c'est trop peu
but it isn't enough yet
pour tant de coeur
for so much love
et tant de fleurs
and so many blossoms

des milliers de jours
thousands of days
c'est bien trop court
it's yet too short
c'est bien trop court
it's well too short

et pour aimer
and to love
comme l'on doit aimer
as one must love
quand on aime vraiment
when one loves truly
même en cent ans
even a hundred years hence
je n'aurai pas le temps
I wouldn't have had enough time
pas le temps
enough time

je n'aurai pas le temps
I won't have enough time
pas le temps
enough time

You want clear singing, rich music, and intelligent lyrics that tell an often poignant story? A band that is hip without being trendy?

The Divine Comedy
Many, many great songs. Unfortunately, not enough is available for free on the nets.

Come Home Billy Bird
Businessman rushing home to see his son play football.

A Lady of a Certain Age (on stage, on a Paris sidewalk)
Woman fallen on difficult times.

Becoming More Like Alfie
Man on the prowl.

Absent Friends
Melancholy over a few iconic figures.

To Die a Virgin
Young man hot for his first experience.

Yann Tiersen & Neil Hannon
Neil is the lead singer and brain behind The Divine Comedy. Yann is a dude you should check out if you like the music.

Les Jours Tristes (with Neil singing, instrumental)

Paul McCartney - Live and Let Die wink.gif

I guess that worked for "Bond, James Bond that is."

John's "Imagine" is more meaningful and to the point.

I would think Elijah that that song would strike a cord even with you.

Just imagine how close to your ideals his lyrics describe, yet how far from the obstacles you place in your own path he went beyond.

Yep I suspect it makes you mighty uncomfortable to know how close to the truth someone like John Lennon was and yet he didn't hate, he didn't fit all your stereotypes about misguided atheists. John Chapman is as close to a hand of god as you might find, just another madman seeking fame and a secure place in a man made heaven or hell.

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Certainly, you must mean how very far from the truth John Lennon and the rest of the Beatles were. They lived lives of fame and fortune. They lived in luxury and had plenty of material possessions and money. They used the best drugs available.

They may of mislead me down the drug path in my youth, but they're unable to today. I sometimes listen to the music on the Internet for old times sake. I wouldn't, however, pay a dime for it. You would never see me contribute to lavish lifestyles I believe are lived at the expense of the masses.

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

He was only dreaming about it, not seriously considering it. :)

I saw that movie too when I was about 14. I can't remember anything about the movie, but I do remember Paul McCartney's opening song Live and Let Die.

This is an absolutely Wonderful thread Roe, I’ve been trying my best to resist temptation by staying away from it because I just love music so much, but I’m not trying to add another thread to my routine. I’m so far behind on my posting elsewhere, but I gotta tell you, every time I see it I’m like a dog looking at the fun tennis ball that just got thrown. I wanna chase it. About the only thing telling me no is that your thread is in a censorable neighborhood and I know I would be in trouble if I chased the ball in here. It’s like you threw the ball across the highway and the oncoming traffic (censors) are keeping me from lunging and chasing. Good thing you didn’t throw the ball into the big grassy fields of the Freedom of Speech Forum.

Live Long and Well Roe,
William Constitution O’Rights
