I just learned that 7 keto dhea reduces cortisol by 7%.
I was taking dhea to try and balance a health issue I am having that is resulting in eczema.
Prednisone, which is basically artificial cortisol, from what I understand, normalizes me but
obviously I can't stay on it for longer than the 10 days dose. I've was taking dhea
for about two months between 50 and 100 mg a day and it was very effective for keeping the eczema
under control, (along with 100 mg of Pregnenolone), except for the
fact that my hair was thinning.
I switched to 7 keto dhea a week ago to avoid that, but am not finding it
as effective as regular dhea for my skin although my hair is not thinning anymore and I am still doing
100 mg of Pregnenolone. In fact as of today I raised pregnenolone and 7 keto to 100 mg twice a day because I was
finding my skin itching about 12 hours after taking it. But that might be because the 7 keto is not as
effective as the dhea was in that regard.
Now I discover 7 keto actually lowers cortisol, which is not
a good thing in my case since I think that might very well be my problem.
Would taking both of them be a solution or a problem (7 keto and reg dhea) ?
I was wondering if doing 100 mg of the 7 keto and 25 of the reg dhea (50 was causing thinning hair)
might help the situation? Any ideas?
ETA~ I just found a partial answer to my question about taking them together but would appreciate
other ideas as well.

In part, the role of 7-KETO involves supporting thermogenic enzymes that provide a pathway for heat production and energy burning (5-7), which may be helpful for promoting weight loss. In studies, 200 mg of 7-KETO per day combined with exercise was shown to support weight loss (5). This is the primary context in which 7-KETO is used.

Research on the role of 7-KETO in immune, cognitive and other areas of support similar to DHEA has proved promising but preliminary (1). In these cases, 7-KETO can be combined with regular DHEA. For instance, DHEA may be recommended at doses of 5-50 mg per day and combined with 50 to 200 mg per day of 7-KETO. It is safe to take them together unless the dose of DHEA starts to exceed 50 mg per day after which there may be some hormone related side effects (1).

Yes, DHEA and 7-Keto DHEA are really totally different; 7-Keto is more for weight loss AFAIK while regular DHEA is more for useful for its anti-inflammatory and hormonal normalization effects. I take 50 mg DHEA and 100 mg 7-Keto daily.

I'm going to do both too. 100 mg 7 keto and 25 reg. I was considering doing
200 mg 7 keto (100 twice a day since I heard that was a better way to dose) but I am not sure yet. I can't
go to 50 on the Dhea. Hair thins. You only do them once a day? What time of day?

I read somewhere that DHEA should be taken before bedtime, so I'm now taking it with my melatonin. Can't recall the source, though. I take the 7-keto earlier, though I don't have any good research regarding what time it should be taken.

I lift weights and do take 7-keto, i have noticed more muscle mass and reduction in fat. I'm also a bit stronger when lifting so it helps in that regard to a point. I do take 100mg twice per day.

I read that 100 mg twice a day is the preferred dosage too. How much do you weigh?
I've been taking 100 mg in the morning and 50 at night, erring on the side of caution. I'm wondering if there is a mg/kg ratio to go by.

I saw that, but I wasn't sure because it said 7 oxo dhea and in my quest to find out if
7 keto and 7oxo were the same, I came across comments about how 7 oxo grew hair on some guys hairless back,
which kind of turned me off to it. Then I learned that 7 oxo is yet one step up from 7 keto, and that they
weren't the same thing. Do you know if that's so?

They're the same. Do a google search for 3-acetyl-7-oxo-dehydroepiandrosterone AND (7-oxo OR 7-keto).

Oh I get it. 7 keto is a trademark name. That why they use 7 oxo. Thanks..

"Popular Antiaging Supplement has no Beneficial Effects, Mayo Clinic Study Finds

Wednesday, October 18, 2006

ROCHESTER, Minn. — A widely used antiaging supplement has no effect on aging markers such as muscle strength, peak endurance, muscle mass, fat mass and glucose tolerance in elderly men and women, according to Mayo Clinic researchers. The findings from their two-year study appear in the Oct. 19 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

The findings serve to dispel the belief that dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), sold extensively as an antiaging supplement in health and grocery stores, can reverse age-related alterations in body composition and function, says the study's lead author K. Sreekumaran Nair, M.D., Mayo Clinic endocrinologist......"

Well given that it was 2 years time ...its not really something to be impressed about regarding his jump in strength. It certainlly can be done in a quarter of the time with no supplementation through hard work. I am not knocking that he has gotten himself into shape ......that is applaudable, I am just saying it really isn't relevant to this thread and the supplement.
