My boyfriend just send me this article:

IBM's Blue Gene Supercomputer Models a Cat's Entire Brain

IBM and Stanford University researchers modeled a cat's cerebral cortex using the Blue Gene/IP supercomputer, which currently ranks as the fourth most powerful supercomputer in the world. They had simulated a full rat brain in 2007, and 1 percent of the human cerebral cortex this year.

They at least mentioned Markram's criticism, but it was a pretty cursory treatment. I think H+ is more interested in sizzle than steak. The comments suggest that readers are not fooled. I agree with Markram on this; the "cat brain" "simulation" is BS. It's a sideshow.

Michael Anissimov agrees that the cat brain simulation is nonsense.

However, I am glad to see IBM still engaging in this type of fundamental research, including Watson and cognitive computer chips.
