Ok have tried 1/4, 1/2 and now a full 5 mg pill of lithium orotate doctor's best. I can't say i have felt anything significantly. Perhaps i need to take twice a day, both morning and evening.

Interesting, I can feel 5mg.

i also felt the lithium immediately @ 5mg/day...

What were the effects? brighter mood and less anxiety?
Last night i tried roughly a quarter of a pill and 3 hours later or so i felt a bit more optimistic, could have been a placebo though. Just tried half a pill will see if i notice anything more conclusive. Tomorrow i'll probably take the standard dose of 5 mg.

it resolved my stress induced depression & eliminated my anxiety. i was amazed at how well it worked.

I have been quite unlucky with feeling anything i have bought. Perhaps i should try it on an empty stomach next time. I take it with magnesium so i will try it without too. Btw i thought you said you had to take like 15-20 mg to feel it, or maybe it was some other guy.

What I meant to say was 15-20mg was the optimal dosage per day. But I can still feel 5mg. 10mg is much more noticeable.

Lithium is a strange supplement. The low end dosage used to treat bipolar is 60mg. Some people feel brain fog from as little as 1mg!

15mg a day has made a absolute huge difference in my life. Anxiety is all but gone, and my mood is much improved.

just noticed that the bluebonnet magnesium is buffered. is there a difference between that and the unbuffered form in doctor's best.

The buffered Albion (bluebonnet) includes some oxide in there. The Doctor's Best includes a little lysine and also bioperine (which I don't particularly like).

I take the BlueBonnet Magnesium Glycinate twice daily (200 mg x 2) and the Doctor's Best Lithium Orotate daily (1 tablet) around noon time. Works well for me.

avoiding bioperine would be more important to me. glycinate & oxide have about the same bioavailability... the only reason to avoid oxide would be laxative effect and possibly antagonisms depending on what you eat with it.

Are you taking it in conjunction with St. John's Wort is it working all by itself? Thanks.

Wow! I can't believe you don't feel anything from any of those doses. I've been taking it for a month, and 5mg is still hugely sedating. I "felt" it immediately, but it took a week or more for the mood-brightening effects to show up. I'm taking it at night, because it was quite sedating and dulling if I took any during the day.

I was going to say that you should start at 1/4 pill and work up very slowly, but if it doesn't do anything drastic to you, maybe start at 5mg and increase the dose by 5mg every week or even two?

Cutting pills never works. A lot of them, you can just break in half (and then again) with your fingers. If that's too hard, buy a pill splitter at a pharmacy or grocery store. They have something like a razor blade which will guillotine pills cleanly in half for you.

I've seen several papers recommending that lithium be taken with food, but that was intended for higher dosages. It gave me a weird taste in the back of my throat if I took it before breakfast.

well the combination of lithium and magnesium malate has definitely decreased my anxiety. I think it might be the magnesium that has done that. In terms of lithium, i feel i seem more lethargic during the days even though i get good sleep. At least i think i´m noticing it doing something but in terms of mood i am still waiting for. I still got zoloft on prescription but i am exploring all natural routs first. If lithium would not work after i give it some time, what would be suitable to try next in your opinion healthy?

I'm really not qualified to say. But, I've found high dose fish oil works for depression (but does nothing for anxiety). I'm taking 10g of fish oil a day. It takes a week or so to feel the full effect. I'm feeling pretty good with high dose fish oil and lithium (and magnesium helps a lesser degree). I'm using the Kirkland (Costco) brand of fish oil (molecularly distilled).

wow 10 g?! I used to take around 2-5 g of liquid fish oil (Nature's Answer) this one http://www.iherb.com...80-ml/7908?at=0 . Finished the whole bottle and i guess it kept me more at bay and not so paranoid. I'll probably buy another fish oil supplement. I guess if im going to supplement 10 g i need to buy the liquid version again!

I just buy the Costco brand with 400 pills for $10 (molecularly distilled of course). At 10 pills a day it lasts for 40 days.

Lithium lowers DHEA levels and testosterone by blocking the Leydig cells response somehow. I saw one reference that these effects start at 20 mg. elemental lithium per day. Is anyone concerned about this and supplementing DHEA to compensate?

I use Bluebonnet magnesium glycinate and I take 2x 200mg pills at night. I have been taking this for over a month at night and it seems to help out with anxiety among other things.

I'd be very concerned about taking that much fish oil for an extended period. See the last post in this thread: Fish oil (can you take too much?)

EDIT: sorry, didn't realize the omega-3 content in these was so low. Looks like you're right where you should be ;) (albiet at the upper limit)

Any chance you could find this reference? It would be very helpful for this current discussion: Lithium: downside?

10 grams of Kirkland brand fish oil is like taking 5 or 6 grams of something like Carlon's. You have to take into consideration the amount of EPA and DHA in each thousand mg capsule.

I take 300 mg lithium carbonate. I just started DHEA supplementation 2 weeks ago and just learned a few days ago that lithium could lower DHEA, so I upped my DHEA to a 25 mg micronized version. I am taking stinging nettles, d aspartic acid, high doses of pomegranate(aromatase inhibitor), and ginger to try to keep testosterone at a healthy level.

Here are a few studies on Lithium and it's effects on DHEA and testosterone.

http://www.google.co...DR4mGkgEbAt4d2g This one I just realized was already posted in the other thread.

http://www.google.co...5CXOzCr3HJW15BQ

The study on lithium and testosterone mentions that testosterone was only significantly impacted with individuals on doses where serum levels were within therapeutic range.

Here are a few that show evidence that Lithium does not have a detrimental effect on testosterone.

http://www.google.co...05SoMGpsBUVDDxA

http://www.google.co...O4TdRfEFzXR6VUg

I really don't think that the low doses of lithium orotate being used by most here will negatively impact DHEA or testosterone levels.
