Hello,

I found a new talk of Henry Markram (from the "Blue Brain Project") and I think that it's very interesting.

To find it, search in Google:

Brain Forum 2011

(without any quotation marks)

and go to the first link.

( It should be: W,W,W - BrainForum.it/brainforum-2011.ht.... )

Click on the red button on the right (with 'Play' icon on it) then click on the "English Version" flag above the video (to hear the talk in english) and choose "Henry Markram" from the list below.

(there are also some Questions & Answers at the end of the talk)

By the way it's sounds to me from this talk that we don't need at all the 'Connectomics' project, he says that they found exactly how the neurons are connected to one another, and what are the rules for that, he also mention in a few words a new technique that may replace the current technique which is very very slow.

Enjoy.

Here's the link: http://www.brainforu...m-2011-ondemand

I think you still have to click the English flag and then select the appropriate talk down the list though.

Very impressive, with a plethora of flashy diagrams and visualizations. But the talks very little about what this all actually means (granted, he works from the bottom up). Jeff Hawkins from numenta has promising and successful theories to make sense of the biological data. Odd they don't mention each other. Seems a lot to do with funding.

When he talked about the new technique, maybe he was talking about this:

(remove the spaces at the start & at the end of the link)

The real big step forward for Herny Markram's project following the Blue Brain Project will be when his project will be (hopefully) selected by the EU as the Flagship Human Brain Project (funding will be major, in the order of 1bEuros over 10 years). See the HBP site and my comment HERE

Another great (new) lecture of Henry Markram:

Search in YouTube -

Simulating the Brain -- The Next Decisive Years

(You will find 3 parts, each one about 15:00 minutes)

Enjoy.
