Which blood tests would you consider important to get for a late-teenager? A good place to start would be Ray Kurzweil's site at http://www.fantastic...tGuidehtml.htm. There's an old thread on them at http://www.longecity...ts-should-i-do/ (too old for me to top), and my old blood test results are at http://www.longecity..._1#entry228561. I also got some more recent blood test results in 2009 (but I'll have to scan them in).

Basically, I just found out that my insurance might cover everything, so I'm considering a huge number of blood tests. I got a huge number several years ago, so I'm mostly interested in the quantities that can change over time

The ones that I would consider very important are Hemoglobin A1c (for glucose),IGF-1, Lp(a), glucose, insulin, homocysteine, blood lipids, and testosterone. C-reactive protein too (but I won't do it again since group health's CRP tests have super-low sensitivity). What else? Would testing for estrogen or estradiol ever help? (for the sex hormones, I'm not looking for aging inasmuch as I'm simply trying to see if my libido changes with changes in my emotional state). What about creatinine, amylose, lipase, and fibronigen? And what about sedimentation/precipitation?

How would I get a skin fluorescence test for AGE accumulation? Also, are there any blood tests that are useful for measuring advanced glycation end products?

What about other blood tests that may not be longevity related, but can affect quality of life issues like energy levels and attention span?

I don't plan on testing some things again (ALT, AST, sodium, potassium) since I don't think they will change from baseline.

Hm this might also be useful

As an example, consider lipoprotein lipase. This is a molecule that plays a central role in how the body processes fats; it’s produced by many tissues, including muscles. Low levels of lipoprotein lipase are associated with a variety of health problems, including heart disease. Studies in rats show that leg muscles only produce this molecule when they are actively being flexed (for example, when the animal is standing up and ambling about). The implication is that when you sit, a crucial part of your metabolism slows down.

Nor is lipoprotein lipase the only molecule affected by muscular inactivity. Actively contracting muscles produce a whole suite of substances that have a beneficial effect on how the body uses and stores sugars and fats.

if metabolism slow it will exrete remaining nutrients before it can be used if new nutrient comes into the blood because the nutrients are not being used fast enough so itll be replaced.

The most important is a protein test. I did one last because they don't test it often since it is not suspected but I had the lowest my doctor had ever seen.
