Well, it's Drew Berry, a Wehi.tv (Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research) medical animator.
I think, apart from the scientific accuracy of course, a lot of the appeal comes from the incorporation of brownian motion and sound. Featured in PBS's DNA documentary.

That was quite possibly one of the neatest videos I have seen, especially the 2nd segment... just amazing. It makes me want to learn more about it.
