Hi

I've been able to get access to my old paypal account and found the
attached (I trust you can keep this document in confidence due to
security reasons). You will see that one of the events is "failed
transfer". Upon looking up the reason it failed I get this:

Subject: Bank Account
Funding Type: Instant Bank Transfer
Transfer from: REMOVED
This payment was made using your backup payment method because the
financial institution of your initial direct debit or bank funding
payment refused the transaction.
View your account History for more details.

Obviously what occurred here is I must have attempted a second
subscription which also failed for the same reason (I was at that time
a student living on benefits/welfare with limited financial resources,
I was also apparently a bit of an idiot too). When paypal caught up
and made the charges to my bank with a backup method I saw multiple
charges to my bank account and wrongly assumed error. I then blamed CI
for something that was not in any way CI's fault or responsibility.

This is probably the root cause of the confusion and while it does not
excuse my behaviour, it explains why I had things so confused at the
time. Since 2006 I have been involved in 2 businesses that interacted
with paypal and have directly implemented their API so I know how
charges can be pulled, but from these records it's clear that this was
a regular subscription button as it currently is on your site right
now and NOT (as I wrongly believed and stated at the time) a
preapproved payment plan.

I am willing to admit my mistake in public if that is what will be
required to gain a good standing with CI and I am so very sorry for my
past stupidity.

After sending this email I intend to post to cryonet and imminst with
a public open apology for my past behaviour, even if you are unwilling
to accept my membership (understandable, if extremely disappointing
for me personally) I believe it is only right to clarify what really
happened, if for no other reason than to help my own reputation with
those who saw the truth at the time and tried to make me see it.

Thanks for your time and I hope that this is sufficient to move
forwards and leave the past behind

This post is the public open apology I was referring to. I am deeply sorry to the staff at CI (in particular Ben Best and Andy Zawacki) for the trouble I caused them, I am also extremely sorry and thankful to the multiple people who attempted to make me understand how what I claimed to have happened was simply not possible.

I'm hoping that by making this sincere and full admission in public I can put this mistake behind me and get onto good terms with CI.

I would just like to note that I have not had any response as of yet to this email.

Hopefully this is simply because staff are busy but if not and if I am in fact going to remain banned from CI membership, I would be interested to hear from people who are familiar with alternatives, specifically KrioRus and Alcor. I hear that KrioRus now have essentially the same technological capabilities as CI do and would be interested to know what kind of expenses there are for transport etc from the UK.

My preference would still lie with CI however, despite having contacted KrioRus to look into using their services as a "placeholder" in case I have to wait many years for the issues with CI to be resolved.

For any interested, i've had a response from CI now explaining how to proceed, I won't be discussing this in public any further but it appears that I may be able to sort out CI membership soon.

(PREVIOUS TITLE: Signing up with ACS)

Title says it all, i've went with the "jack frost" plan and i'm hoping this will be accepted, i've instructed them to spend the money on research if they are unable to accept my membership.

Some background:
To cut a long story short, due to a load of fuckups, I have not been able to join CI and they are unwilling to accept my membership without consent from my wife (who has refused to give such consent). Therefore my only other realistic options are either ACS or KrioRus and despite KrioRus looking better and better I still would prefer to go with an older and thus more stable organisation.

I have therefore went with ACS and i'm hoping to have my membership approved soon.

ACS patients are still stored and held by CI.
Consent of the spouse is crucial for many logistic reasons but not a legal impediment to cryonics in most circumstances.
What inspires CI's policy?

This situation is particular to Gareth Nelson, and does not
reflect any general policy by the Cryonics Institute. There
are many spouses hostile to cryonics. For background
on this case, see:

Thanks! There was actually a recent thread on LongeCity that referred to this matter which I had overlooked. These topics have been merged.

I'd just like to confirm again that this is indeed particular to my situation and there is no policy at CI against members with hostile relatives.

I'd also ask people to overlook some of my past stupidity on this matter, I am publically stating here that the "fuckups" mentioned in an earlier post by myself were on my part mainly, with a minor issue on paypal's end. Had I been more mature at the time I suspect things would have gone very differently and i'd have been a CI member for a long time by this point.
