Does anyone have any suggestions for careers that create a decent lifestyle? I'm guessing a job with too much stress is not conducive to long life.

I would steer clear of any heavy manual labour work.

Another way of thinking about this is how to build security into your life so that your lifestyle isn't dictated by your career. Many of the stresses I associate with careers come from what we expect from those careers, usually what we can buy with the money we make. My advice is to choose a career that enriches you mentally and build stress reduction into your life. Establish savings by living frugally and do not obsess over material achievement.

Different people are stressed by different things. Find the niche that is right for YOU.

I can tell you first hand which do not have a decent lifestyle:
* Management consulting
* Investment banking (especially M&A) / Private Equity. Other parts of finance can be quite variable
* Middle Management (on average), senior management (always)
