I think that the reason is that the indexing and search functions are working so poorly. I originally found this place due to an internet search. For a while your internal and external search functions haven't been working well. When you try to do a site search it just doesn't work.

You used to have such a lot of viewers and participants. That made it more interesting to be here and there was potential to earn money. I had an idea of how we could do that which I was going to try to convey to you (although that seemed to be more difficult that it should be). I guess it's not worth trying to pursue things like that if participaction is declining. Too bad. My blog views are 14,000 now.

Thanks for the comment Luminosity. The search function has been a constant source of frustration for me through the years as well. We have been experimenting with a few things recently and hopefully it will improve.

Since May 2011 when you joined Luminosity, participation as measured by posting activity has increased 160%.
The people who write the core forum software claim that search has never been better, but we know its not optimal. You can also use google which is now the default.
The 'views' are just an artefact of search spiders crawling I think, don't expect that that many people are reading your blog.
You have made many valuable contributions and if you have a suggestion to 'convey' it would be great to hear from you.

What do the page view stats look like for the past couple years?

Why would search engines be crawling over my blog that much? Why aren't they crawling over the other posts? I only update it a few times a month.

I don't know what the stats are but I find fewer responses and fewer conversations to get into now than I did earlier. When I want to look into someone's blog posts or other posts I may only be able to go back a little ways. That is one thing that would limit participation.

I think you guys should hire an outside paid expert and invest in the right software and enough bandwidth. In the long run that will pay off because you can solicit contributions from more people.

If web crawlers are skewing the stats for my blog, is that generally true of the stats for the other posts? How do other sites correct for that?
