The Society for Venturism is a long time cryonics advocacy organization formally incorporated in 1986: http://www.venturist.info/

Currently it is building up membership again after having a peak of two hundred members over a decade ago and having been relatively less active the past decade (although they were integral in helping get ImmInst's thefirstimmortal cryonically preserved http://www.longecity...efirstimmortal/ )

For 2012 The Society for Venturism is re-organizing: http://www.venturist...membership.html

For one thing they are putting out a monthly newsletter and are looking for contributers: http://www.venturist...nthly-news.html

If you'd like to contribute, editors Mike Perry and Mark Plus are members of the Venturist Yahoo group, you can send direct emails to them or else to the yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo....?yguid=69174212

If you are in or around the Arizona area you may want to attend the June 1-3 conference, its a great chance to network with other cryonicists and learn about cryonics issues: http://www.venturist...conference.html

Some of the things we will be discussing/presenting ===============

INFORMATION ON HOW TO POSSIBLY PROTECT YOUR SUSPENSION. (How to improve the odds that cryonics will work for you).

I believe the most important thing a cryonicists can do is sign up and fund their suspension.

The second most important thing a cryonicist can do is to sign up for back-up protection in case their primary suspension provider gets in trouble after they are in suspension.

Look at the Chatsworth disaster where so many patients' suspensions were terminated and they were allowed to rot. If we had this protection in place those people might have been rescued, and the movement would not have been set back 10 years from the bad publicity.

With the problems and risks in doing suspensions I believe that it is just a matter of time before relatives try to sue Alcor or CI or both. So far Alcor and CI have been able to take care of themselves. And I hope they can always continue to handle any and all problems. But there are always people out there trying to hurt the primary suspension organizations. Even government officials can try to harm the cryonics suspension organizations. Look what happened to me and 5 others when we tried to protect a patient's suspension at Alcor and were taken into custody by misguided officials. They tried hard to shut Alcor down. We were lucky we had a wise judge in that case.

A company that does not do suspensions, like the Venturists, has less legal risks. So the Society for Venturism is much less likely to get a judgment against them. The Venturists are in a less risky position to hold on to their trust fund money and have it be there if needed. We need to refine up the back-up protection plan and build up the trust fund.

If the fund is not needed to protect patients, the money can be used to help the patients at re-animation time.

Every person who is signed up for suspension would be wise to consider a small investment ($100 a year dues that part goes to operations and part into the trust fund) to try to protect their suspension. When we have the Conference in Arizona this June, try to get here and see what you can do to get more involved.

LEARN ABOUT OTHER THINGS.

The Society for Venturism wants to do things to help the primary suspension companies like CI and Alcor. We want to have communications and organization in place, along with funds, in case they ever call on us for outside help.

The Venturists are also trying to raise money for other types of suspended animation research like chemical fixation. Chemical fixation could be much less expensive and much safer (no liquid nitrogen to leak/burst out of the tanks) then cryonics. Mike Perry will be talking on that.

Do you need an advocate to help with family or other matters. Do you want to volunteer to be one to help others?

Do you carry the Venturist No Autopsy Card in case you die suddenly.

Do you want to learn how we can JOIN TOGETHER to better attract more people and more resources to cryonics.

You can book a room at the Creekside Lodge at affordable rates, or share a room. You can camp out – bring a tent. You can come in a self-contained RV.

Please contact me if you need more information.
