Hi guys,

still working on finding my "sweet spot" on racetams and I'm quite new to this world. Been testing aniracetam and piracetam the last 4 weeks.

I'm just wondering if swollen or puffy eyelids is a common side effect on racetams? Yes, drowsiness and being sleepy has been a side effect for me on Aniracetam, but even on days when I feel quite mentally alert I notice my eyelids looks way more puffy after I started doing racetams? Especially in the mornings when I wake up. Even when I had a night of great sleep it looks like I barely got any sleep at all.

Currently doing:
1 x 500mg CDP Choline
2 x 500mg Aniracetam
4 x 800mg Piracetam
1 x ALCAR
Other stuff: B-complex, Omega3, Zinc, Magnesium

I can add that my eyes seem pretty red/bloodshot too. Anyone ?

I'm pretty much ready to give up racetams all together. Gonna try to drop Aniracetam, drop Choline & ALCAR and go with only 400mg Piracetam 2-3 times per day to see if my drowsiness & puffy eyes gets better.

Any chance in the world someone else who has experienced drowsiness/brain fog on racetams please can comment on whether they've also experienced something similar to this ? Or has your drowsiness/brain fog been completely without physical symptoms ?

I've set up a doctors appointment but he couldn't see me until January 24th. Meanwhile it would be awesome if someone could be bothered to give their input on this so I don't have to go around all christmas wondering if something is seriously wrong here.

I've been really drowsy on Aniracetam. Tried adding Piracetam for about a week hoping maybe the combo would work better but still drowsy. Today I've tried the following:
8 am: 250mg Aniracetam / 500mg Oxiracetam / 250mg CDP Choline
(Felt more rushed than I'm used to but semi-ok effect I guess. Started to get tired around 11am)
1 pm: 500 mg Oxiracetam
2 pm: 250 mg CDP Choline
(Felt even more tired than earlier at 2 pm so wanted to try more Choline. Seemed to wake me up a bit, things are a bit less foggy 45 min later. Not perfect but slightly better)

I was wondering if it was the Choline I've been reacting too (making be both tired and giving me puffy eyelids), and not the Aniracetam I started 4 weeks ago - but since taking more Choline at 2 pm made me slightly less tired I guess it's not. I will be dropping Aniracetam tomorrow and only go with Oxiracetam or Piracetam, and maybe some Choline or ALCAR. Or possibly just eat a couple of eggs in case I am reacting to the Choline supplements.

Regardless, right now it sucks walking around in a business environment at work looking like I've been out partying snorting coke or smoking weed all night. My eyelids are swollen, looks slightly darker/bloodshot, and my eyes are slightly more bloodshot/red in the white area. I have no known allergies, I eat quite healthy and work out quite a bit most of the time. This swollen eyelid thing has started after I started experimenting with racetams with various Choline sources, so it can't be a coincidence. Besides the racetam drowsiness I feel fine, so there's no flu, a cold or something in that area that can be causing this. I'm 35, healthy/normal weight, and I've slept well the last nights (7 hours last night). It's been like this for 1-2 weeks now.

It seems like more than half the people who's been trying racetams has experienced drowsiness/brain fog at some point. If none of you had reactions similar to mine I must be having an allergic reaction to something here.

Any input is much appreciated.

Actually I have also wondered if my eyelids were getting thicker from my Nootropic Stack Supplementation. I think it may be due to several factors such as quality of sleep ( having a vivid and active dream life while supplementing is fun and interesting but it may hinder physical recuperation I think), also fluid retention (and I think this is the bigger issue). My job right now is interfering with my fluid intake levels because I am anchored to my post for long periods of time. But I would recommend drinking as much purified water as you possibly can. When the body knows it is getting enough water, it will not try and retain as much water. http://en.wikipedia....bital_puffiness

Hey buddy,

very interesting feedback, thanks. Yeah there is no doubt my eyelids, and the skin above the actual eyelid (whatever it's called), seems more puffy. Naturally you notice these kind of things better yourself but I asked my best friend and he agreed he can easily tell a difference.

I have a doctors appointment the 24th of January, but last time I mentioned nooptropics/racetams he seemed to have no clue about it all, so I doubt he has any suggestions. It's been 5-6 weeks now so this thing seems permanent to me as long as I'm doing racetams :/ It sucks because even if this makes me feel more sharp on the inside it most certainly makes it look like I'm having a less sharp day on the outside. The only thing I've noticed that will temporarily make it better is a warm cloth on the eyelids for a few min, but that's very temporarily.

Please have your iodine levels checked. One's depletion of healthy iodine levels will cause puffiness around your eyes. Also, you have to look at salt in your diet as well.

I am experiencing the same issues. Been taking piracetam regularly for about 3 months now (4 grams / day). In the morning my eye-lids are so swollen and they stay like that throughout the day.. I look like an alcoholic. I am going to discontinue piracetam in the hope that my eyes will go back to normal. If anyone has any advice or has had a similar experience and found a remedy, I'd be grateful. Thank you so much.

I recently started experiencing this I thought it was just due to the way I was sleeping but maybe not but usally once I get up and do a little exertise to get the blood flowing and wake myself up a little bit it seems to help and then after I take a shower they are pretty much normal.

Thanks so much for your kind response. You're right - movement early in the morning definitely helps... I find that puffiness goes away as the day progresses and as I'm more active.

I am starting to think that diet and lack of sleep are much more likely to contribute to my eyes being puffy - been taking in a lot more salt and carbs than I normally do (and having 11pm dinners which is unusual for my routine), and prob not drinking as much water as I should... am also pretty stressed out as I'm studying for the LSAT for 10 hours a day and having coffee in the late afternoon which keeps me up late at night...

I'm going to pay attention to my diet and overall stress levels within the next couple of weeks and will post an update. I am hoping that eye puffiness will go away. :)

Yes, I have experienced eye irritation, rapid eyelid tremors, red bloodshot eyes, insomnia, facial puffiness, and other undesirable effects after taking noopept and lucidril together for about a month. I'm currently on a break from taking them and all adverse effects disappeared after a couple days of stopping.

Fishy body odor? That's strange. Never experienced anything like that. I only take choline when in the morning in the form of Alpha-GPC. Other days I'll take ALCAR with Piracetam. I've never taken centro with Noopept but I've found (and this is unusual), better effects when using only 5mgs of Noopept at a time. I grew irritable and it affected my sleep at 10-20mgs per dose after a couple weeks of use. I took a break and I've noticed a significant improvement in mood when I take Noopept at much lower doses than what the norm and recommendations are.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I think small doses are the way to go.

I'm on day 5 of my break from noopept & centro, and all day long, I've been having this chemical taste in my mouth and breath, similar to the taste in my mouth after an exhaustive workout swimming laps at the pool, a chlorine-like taste. It feels as if my lungs are expelling fumes as a part of detox. I can only think of the residual noopept & centro in my system that might be causing this. I guess I must have built up quite a reserve of it in my body, and it's taking days to flush out. Nasty!

Upside is that during this break, my mind feels very sharp, like it's on a rebound, similar to the feeling I get when I take off a heavy weight belt I've been wearing and I suddenly feel light as a feather because my muscles are still acclimated to the extra weight.

OP, it sounds like you may be allergic to something you are taking.

Try cutting out the choline and ALCAR. Then try cutting out the racetams. Cut out one thing at a time to determine.

I don't know. I have been taking racetams for a long time and never had puffy eyes (well, no more than normal. I do have allergies that cause puffy eyes occasionally, hence my assumption that it is allergies :))

I discountinued piracetam + choline three days ago and find that my eyes are less swollen now and I no longer have the fishy body odor lol

The fishy body odor is sometimes caused by choline bitartrate.

Know a few people who have suffered with the head aches, slow motor skills and brain fog associated with Piracetam and other racetams. Usually find its due to poor diet, OD dosing and in some cases it just seems to take a week or two to reduce in negative effects and then you really start to get the benefits. To be honest I would check some of the things other users have suggested, any change in your eyelids would be most likely linked to varied sleep and perhaps change in your REM sleep as some nootropics seem to have profound effects on the REM sleep phase. I see a lot of people not happy with racetams and try to solve the problems straight out by including expensive Alpha GPC or choline supplementation, id consider stopping your dosing altogether with all nootropics for a few weeks and see what the score is before discarding racetams altogether

Just find it unfortunate some people have negative effects from then when they can actually become very beneficial.

If all else fails and you begin to actually reap real benefits from your regimen, you could always use preparation H, on your eyes before bed

I kid.
