Hello,
Please, help me. Im feeling very often like im could sleep every time. Moreover I feel like 'brain fog' or empty head. I can't find word when I'am talking, I can't use my knowledge because this is like behind the wall. During conversation often i don't know what telling. I feel still empty head. Additionaly apathy or anhedonia, this is very annoying condition. Im reading about supplements for CFS and brain fog about uridine and choline, tyrozine and DLPA and much more, but there is too much for newbie and i don't know what i should choose. Could you tell me, which supplements I should start?

Thanks,
Tweedledum

I got really involved into supplementation at a young age (around 14-15) due to EXTREME daytime fatigue from as young as I could remember. My brain fog was so bad I couldn't have a conversation with other people for most of the day that I had to homeschool (that bad).
I am 22 now, and still have it some weeks out of the year., I know a big part of it is my allergies (I am extremely sensitive to the bad air quality of TN)

The primary thing--supplement wise--that worked for me for years (which I don't fully recommend) is phenibut. It didn't exactly give me energy, but it completely eliminated brain fog, and lifted my mood. However, phenibut is extremely addictive, it's mechanism of effects is somewhat similar to alcohol, so it should be cycled. Tolerance builds fast, and withdrawals can get pretty ugly. I don't take phenibut much anymore, only on harsh days for this reason.

Omega fatty acids, Sulbatiamine+L-Tyrosine, and Vinpocetine have been the most helpful in clearing brain fog in myself.
Caffeine, and high-value B6 is the only energy increase that's legal and/or non-anxiety inducing for myself.

However, before supplementation, note these things that guarantee brain fog/fatigue for me:
Waking up in the morning for a few minutes then going back to bed = Feel slugged out all day
Not having an actual sleep schedule. You can't wait up at 10am one day then 12pm every other day and expect to function like a normal person.

The guy at selfhacked.com actually has some pretty good brain fog treatment advice. I think he's onto something with his contention that mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammation are at the root of brain fog/chronic fatigue. It sounds like he's figured out the precipitating factors through self-experimentation, with food allergies playing a large role in his case. I think he makes the mistake of assuming that everyone has his exact constitution, however, which is unlikely to be the case. He also sounds awfully sure of himself, and is selling services, a couple red flags. These things notwithstanding, his diet and supplement treatment advice looks sound. Of note among his recommendations for mitochondrial issues are nicotinamide riboside and c60-oo. C60 would be one of my first choices, with a proven track record and great bang for the buck. NR is something that our community is just starting to develop experience with.

As the resident cheerleader for C60-oo and a long-term consumer, have you experienced any cognitive enhancement? Were you affected by brain fog prior to commencing use of C60?

Sadly, I don't think it's making me any smarter... at least nothing in the cognitive arena really jumps out at me, but then I didn't really have any cognitive problems before I started. If you're having cognitive problems that are related to hypoxia or mitochondrial insufficiency, that's where it would be most likely to help.

Prophets, a long-time member has a thread about his experiences with NR where he saw a significant cognitive improvement. Another possible cause of brain fog is allergic disease in the sinuses. My first approach to that would be seeing an allergist for testing and possible treatment, but c60 may help allergic issues as well. It's been shown to have a beneficial effect on mast cell histamine release.

Edit: I just re-read GoDavidGo's post, and allergy is probably the entirety of the problem there. People are often surprised at how extreme the cognitive symptoms can get when your sinuses are inflamed. I've been there, due to a dust mite allergy, and it was starting to be life-wrecking. I finally saw an allergist and got it cleared up with allergy shots and some meds. It was like night and day.

There's an evil triad of conditions that can masquerade as each other- allergy, sinus infection, and depression. An allergist should be able to rule out the first two.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. The "disease" is inflammation, the cause of which is allergy to inhaled antigens. The usual culprit is pollen, dust mites, mold, or animal dander, although there are lots of other possibilities.
