How does the survivability for cancer look like?
Has anything changed visibly since the 80ies?

What can the Individual do to avoid cancer or significantly lower the chance of getting cancer?

Nice refs but I don't understand how they relate to the OP's question. Cancer treatments have improved since the 80's, more for some kinds than for others, but it's definitely better overall.

Things to do in order to reduce your odds of getting cancer:

Don't smoke.

Don't be obese.

Eat right.

Exercise.

Get enough sleep.

Don't get too much sun.

Some supplements, like green tea extract and curcumin may be helpful. Probably some others as well.
