You may have heard of the Lakhovsky device as an example of quackery. I'm not so sure that's correct as I can imagine a possible mechanism that could have made it "work".
It might stimulate HGH production and heat shock proteins. I made my own version complete with sparks flashing across concentric rings ( yes, as in Frankenstein). There are various studies suggesting that EMF pulses might be a hormetic stress within the body ( in moderation).

It is apparent that a simple trigger for heat shock protein production is being sought. This old gadget or one like it might be an answer.
