Let's say I suffer from nerve damage(please dont ask about it), both peripheral and central. By googling some keywords I was able to find a few supplements which have helped me.

Citicoline.
I think i found it by searching "nerve damage reduce scarring /inflammation"
i found out about  Macrogol  by searching something like "spinal cord recovery"
Hericium Erinaceus (Lion's Mane) by "nerve regeneration"
Progesterone by "brain damage"

I'm looking more for a substance that can speed up my body's natural recovery of the nervous system and with minimal side effects. I dont really want to use anything that just makes me smarter, but not necessarily healthier; if you know what I mean.

Lion's Mane seemed to be a good find, but I think the effect wears off quite quickly and I can feel the glutamate for a few days. I think the glutamate is negating any positive effects.
I've experimented with a lot of the common choices such as vit. B, alcar, taurine, glycine, magnesium, theanine, ginko.
They all seem to be only somewhat decent, temporary, and usually have negative side effects as well. Especially magnesium; it gives me palpitations. But that's probably because I avoid calcium intake entirely to avoid excitotoxic effects. Though, I'm allergic to dairy anyway, perhaps for that reason.

I'm so far sticking with progesterone, vit d3 and macrogol (in the form of ozmolax). The most impressive one seems to be citicoline for some reason, the effect seems to be long-lasting without making my mind feel cluttered or anything negative. I think in my true resting state, my mind is silent. I've been taking Citicoline for several months now, and it only seems to make me better and better everyday. Citicoline makes me feel the way i did when i was at my peak. It also doesn't seem to have any adverse effects. What I'm looking for is another 'gem' like citicoline.

Ultimately, i'm just trying to improve my mental and physical performance. But I'm trying to approach this in the most natural and sustainable way possible. So my plan was to first address the damage somehow.

If you have any comments or advice at all, please tell me.
Thankyou

Have you researched Lion's Maine?

http://www.ncbi.nlm....les/PMC3176599/

http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/23510212

Looks promising for improving rate of nerve regeneration. Maybe someone with experience can share results.

EDIT: My bad, looks like you already tried it.

Beta Alanine, Royal Jelly(AMP N1-Oxide), Lion's Mane(already mentioned) regarding ALCAR, I think Acetyl-L-Carntine Arginate is specifically better for nerves? There were a few others but I can't remember off the top of my head.

Look for GDNF, BDNF and NGF or respectively: NFG like & etc.

Otherwise see my post and the links in the Thread:

Drug abuse and Nootropic Repair

http://www.longecity...ir/#entry706213

I would try (so consider that I could be mistaken with my assumption):

- Polygonatum sibiricum which increases BDNF more than Selegiline

- Polygala tenuifolia for GDNF

- 9-me-ß-carboline for some dopaminergic repair actions

To avoid spending too much money, try better first rehmannia because its the cheapest

~12 Dollar

http://www.iherb.com...mg-60-Vcaps/769

You should probably read a bit into the subject, because if You know the roughly mechanism, You could save money, find the most precise and more or less effective compound for You.

Example: If You go from this shop nearly everything is good for the brain which is true but not everything is that strong and effective (which is a bit expensive btw)

http://www.supersmart.com/

or

http://www.iherb.com...ch?kw=neuro#p=1

Here are some further informations. Hope this helps somehow

Newly natural compounds that I´ve found with interresting effects

http://www.longecity...esting-effects/

Consider the bloodthinning intractions.

They are safe per se, but could be problematic, if You mix them excessively up and exceeding the recommened dosages.

Thymosin Beta 4. The sequestered actin allows for growth and movement as well as it's anti-inflammatory properties.http://link.springer...1064-008-9712-y

At about 5-10$ a mg it gets pretty expensive. Takes about 30 mg for a good cycle. I start with 5mg the first day and then a mg a day till the cycle ends.

In terms of BDNF elevation.

Consider Tetramethylpyrazine, which is derived from Ligusticum  chuanxiong but can found in chocolate, coffee and perhaps in cocoa flavoured E-liquids

http://www.e-cigaret...ylpyrazine.html

Increase of dopaminergic neurons and its neurite length.

http://www.hindawi.c...am/2013/957875/

On the other hand:

Z-ligustilide ( derived form Ligusticum  chuanxiong) potentiates the cytotoxicity of dopamine in rat dopaminergic PC12 cells.
