For a while now I have been consuming hemp protein powder. Hemp protein appears to have a lot going for it, even when compared to staples such as whey. A summary of its nutritonal benefits are here:
http://livingharvest.com/hemp101.cfm
http://www.manitobah....com/nutrition/
I was interested to find that Paul of MoreLife consumes hemp products: http://morelife.org/...ietregmore.html

Hemp is probably an ideal veg__ source of protein as it contains a decent amount of all the essential amino acids and dos not have soy's drawbacks. I personally consume very little soy these days. Although its ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 is lower than flax, it does contain some GLA. Its balance of omega 3 to 6 is apparently ideal, so if your diet is otherwise perfect hemp may be a good choice. Those of you who immediately jump to the conclusion that hemp is too high in polyunsaturated fats should note that hemp contains antioxidants in the form of the E complex and chlorophyll. Chlorophyll specifically has been recommended for its anti-mutagenic properties. Research into the ratio of E vitamers is being conducted by the Canadian hemp organizations (personal correspondence w/ manufacturers) and should hopefully be available soon.

Thankfully, the DEA's draconian attempts to control hemp products have failed and those of you in the US are now free to ingest this great food product.

I've thought about taking it but didn't have enough budget. If I'm body building should I really be consuming at least 1g protein per lb of my body weight? What do you suggest?

So do you buy from those links? Thanks for sharing!

Not related to hemp...
My best source of protein so far have been raw eggs. But now due to bird flu i'm cuting that out (have problems digesting cooked eggs). Guess I'll up my kefir and peanut butter intake to make up for egg protein.

I'm not a bodybuilder so I have no idea about your first question. Geez, for me that would be about 175 grams of protein. Man that's a lot.

I usually buy my hemp protein at local retailers. I live in Canada and the hemp industry is actually pretty big up here (both the food/textile and "medicinal" varieties).

175 grams is about 6 ounces, right?  Heck, I commonly get a steak that's 22 ounces!  What would that be?  Roughly 650 grams?  :)

When the isolate is produced it may be a bit more practical.

175g is about 6 ounces. But, an ounce of meat usually has around 8 grams of protein.

Depending on your personal protein needs (you'll get tons of different opinions), it could be if spread throughout the day. You'll also get many different opinions on whether red meat is acceptable (or meat at all), how it should be cooked, etc.

Dante, I too have been using hemp, I've been sucking down the pressed hemp seed oil for about six months..I don't use the fish oil, and I've found hemp to totally fill that void, as subjective as that may be. Also as a Canadian, I know what you mean about an influx. It's everywhere, and hopefully going to get less expensive. I also prefer the taste to that of flax.

Why just today, someone told me he had some of that "medicinal" stuff you were talking about..

j/k! that wouldn't be very life-extension of me. :)

Touche, shepard! Although another poster did some super totally awesome attempted character assasination about me smoking weed cause I was a vegetarian, and environmentally concerned, so I shy away from it.

Talking about it, I mean. :)
