I urge you to shut this thread down. In my other thread, I talked about how you're causing suffering to people. Let people live a happy and healthy life without drugs. You have a problem and drugs will not fix it. The drugs have caused your addiction. I hope somebody will be able to back me up here.

You may reject the idea of having an addiction, but that is a sign of having one. I don't know why you've used over 100 mind-altering drugs, but I pray for you. You may not feel happy in your current situation. You may think you need a boost in your job. You may feel you're not smart enough. You may want to get high. I don't know and it doesn't matter. There is hope. God is good. It's time to live happily.

Hey 1jol1uvcaaq, you're definitely entitled to your thoughts. =) With that said, I'm happy to reply.

1. "you're causing suffering": I share my experiences/thoughts, encourage people to read the research, and implore them to make their own, informed decisions. No one 'has' to do anything. Actually I've received MANY messages from people over the years who've said that my work has alleviated their suffering. If I'm talking about something extremely experimental I always put 'high risk' or 'very high risk'. My conscience is clear.

2. "Let people live a happy and healthy life without drugs": I 'let' people do whatever they want. I have never forced anyone to do anything. I primarily encourage people to optimize The Big Six: diet, exercise, sleep, meditation, fasting, and standing. No drugs there. LLLT is not a drug and has been proven safe in literally thousands of scientific studies over the past 40 years. Just head over to pubmed and search 'LLLT' or you can check out my friend Joe Cohen's interview with one of the world's leading experts, Harvard Professor Mike Hamblin. http://selfhacked.co...therapy-expert/

3. "You have a problem": If you read the thread a little closer you'll see that I am a generally happy and healthy person who pursues cognitive enhancement out of insatiable curiosity. I find science and the brain fascinating and I love testing the effects that different things have on my cognition. If you're not comfortable trying what I try...no worries. I would never encourage you to take anything you were not comfortable with.

4. "drugs will not fix it": not trying to 'fix' anything. =) Just passionate about learning, memory, and our endlessly amazing brains.

5. "drugs have caused your addiction": Are you a trained physician? How many people have you diagnosed accurately? Inaccurately? Remember your epistemic position and be honest with yourself about it...you've only read a thread with scattered posts from the past 3 years. You and I have never met. You've never run any tests on me nor have we discussed my 'condition'. Do you take caffeine? Drink tea, coffee, or soda? Tbh, caffeine is the only substance that I've ever had any withdrawal from (headaches)...I'm currently not taking it and I'm doing just fine. =)

6. "You may reject the idea of having an addiction, but that is a sign of having one": You need to read some critical thinking literature. Think about this for a moment. You've rigged the discussion by giving me two options: 1. admit I have an addiction, therefore I have an addiction, 2. claim I DON'T have an addiction, therefore I have an addiction. Therefore, no matter what I say I have an addiction (according to your 'rules'). Please read some logic and critical thinking texts before emoting on the internet. Lesswrong.com is a great place to start. http://lesswrong.com

7. "I don't know why you've used over 100 mind altering drugs": as I mentioned before...curiosity. I am not trying to 'fix' anything, 'fill a void', or escape reality. Quite the contrary. I genuinely love being surprised by reality. Science and the results of experiments are endless sources of fascination for me.

8. "I pray for you": thanks for your prayers. =)

9. "You may not feel happy": I feel extremely happy, tbh.

10. "boost in your job": this is not about 'competition' for me. If you had read page 1 of this thread you would see that one of the very first things I ever said was that I was trading in 'competition for cooperation'. I said that life was much better that way and I still think that today. I was inspired to post here based upon all of the things I had learned from thousands of other Longecity members over the years. If I was looking for a job boost it would make more sense for me to keep my enhancements secret. Instead, I've pretty much shared my journey out loud for anyone with a computer and an internet connection to see. It seems to me that you've brought MANY assumptions to your posts without questioning them. I would encourage you to seek reality instead of confirming the preconceived biases that you've brought to this discussion. Look for data. Look for facts. Once you've done that, form your theories based on the data and rigorously test them (i.e. attack your own ideas by attempting to falsify them). As Feynman said, "The first rule of supp club is that you must not fool yourself. The second rule is that YOU are the easiest person to fool." [paraphrased and embellished. ha]

11. "you may feel you're not smart enough": I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. And doggone it, people like me.

12. "you may want to get high": that has never been a goal of mine. For real. My experiments have nothing to do with getting high. Read all 100 pages of the thread. There are exactly zero instances of me trying to get high or encouraging others to get high.

13. "It's time to live happily": I agree! I wish you nothing but the best and hope you get everything you want from life.

You should examine your response and see how it parallels a bit that of a drug addict.

7.Like serial killers who get bored of killing animals and start killing humans, drug addicts get bored of regular drugs and start abusing harder ones. Some nootropic users are this way too; they will begin with something like coffee and end up with NSI-189. You attempt to extinguish the boredom of life with nootropics("I genuinely love being surprised by reality." This is not truthful) just like others have attempted. What you don't understand is that nootropics are causing your boredom by creating such a contrast in the time you take them and the time you don't. The bitterness of regular life has caused you to forget the beauty of life and focusing on the clock to get your next fix. This addiction causes you to give nootropics more weight than your life when making decisions. You will laugh at any side effect listed, and then you will see the true nature of nootropics-the nootropic damage. You will think you're safe and logical, but that will not matter once the addiction has taken control over your brain. By recognizing the addiction, you will be able to end it faster before it causes anymore harm. This is a message to every nootropic user.

11.You may be good enough, smart enough, and people may like you, but that may not be a good thing. It may make you conceited enough to blind the potential risks in the drugs you're consuming. There are hundreds of posts where people list their side effects.

So what is your plan 1jol? For people to drop everything and then they'll realize they were happy all along?

What about vitamins and minerals? Where do you draw the line between what's safe or not?

You want everyone to stop but you haven't offered any solutions as to what to do afterwards. What is your goal...

Vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients found in regular foods. In some cases they may be beneficial to fix a deficiency or disease, so they are great. They should optimally not be used, since like nootropics, there is a risk of contamination. Nootropics are different because they are drugs. I know some vitamins/minerals can be considered nootropic, but I am talking about the nootropic drugs. We should draw the lines at drugs, except in cases of emergencies.

First, let me just say that I'm genuinely sorry that you've had people close to you suffer with drugs and addiction. I have no doubt that it must have been incredibly painful for them and for you and I don't want to downplay that at all. I can completely understand your desire to warn people about the dangers. For real.

With that said, sometimes (well intentioned) passion can blind us to rationality:

1. You've clearly decided I have a problem and have made it clear that anything I say is going to confirm your bias. No worries. You are welcome to your opinion. =)  https://en.wikipedia...nfirmation_bias

2. You've also committed the slippery slope fallacy. Here's a decent discussion to help you understand how it works.  http://www.nizkor.or...ery-slope.html

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I hope you have a wonderful night! =)

Description of Slippery Slope

The Slippery Slope is a fallacy in which a person asserts that some event must inevitably follow from another without any argument for the inevitability of the event in question. In most cases, there are a series of steps or gradations between one event and the one in question and no reason is given as to why the intervening steps or gradations will simply be bypassed. This "argument" has the following form:

  1. Event X has occurred (or will or might occur).
  2. Therefore event Y will inevitably happen.

This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because there is no reason to believe that one event must inevitably follow from another without an argument for such a claim. This is especially clear in cases in which there is a significant number of steps or gradations between one event and another.

Examples of Slippery Slope

  1. "We have to stop the tuition increase! The next thing you know, they'll be charging $40,000 a semester!"

  2. "The US shouldn't get involved militarily in other countries. Once the government sends in a few troops, it will then send in thousands to die."

  3. "You can never give anyone a break. If you do, they'll walk all over you."

  4. "We've got to stop them from banning pornography. Once they start banning one form of literature, they will never stop. Next thing you know, they will be burning all the books!"

Thanks for your concern. =) I'm glad to hear that you care about helping people.

I could sit here and point out fallacies in your assumptions and reasoning all day (you just committed a form of the 'shifting the goalposts' fallacy among others https://en.wikipedia...g_the_goalposts) but I don't think that's the best use of anyone's time.

Anyway, I've allowed you to have your say, I've kept your post up (I have moderator privileges on this thread), I haven't censored you in any way, and I've spent a decent amount of time responding. I think I've been fair. Time to move on. I realized a long time ago that no matter what I do, someone out there is going to disagree. No worries. You have every right to disagree with what I'm doing and I'm not going to try to change your mind.

I wish you the best in walking the path that you choose to walk.

As for me, I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing and in response to your request to shut down the thread...I respectfully decline.

It's time to live happily.

ban this guy from posting, hes completely polluting good threads.
