Hi,
If I understand correctly, the protective effects of Alpha Lipoic Acid are mediated by hormetic mechanisms, which means inducing low levels of ROS that activate a number of cell protective antioxidants. This is all great but in an older person, for example, where there is a lot of ROS already, the cell basically falling apart, is it a good idea to increase ROS? Wouldn't you want to do the opposite? I mean specifically in an old person. Wouldn't that actually increase ageing potentially and increase disease risk? That's why I'm having doubts about ALA or maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way?
