Im rather new at this but I have done some research on my own and so far it seems that Piracetam is a very good product. I would like to know what some people believe is the best product, I'm a student and I do have a cash limit but even then please tell me what the best product is even if it's costly. Has anyone taken Piracetam with other supplements that either compliment or enhance the effects? I hear that taking Piracetam with DMAE would significally enhance the effects. Also would anyone know if its a bad idea to take Piracetam with L-arginine which helps provide better blood flow? So far I'm looking to take:

Piracetam made from UCB
L-Arginine
DMAE

Could anyone give some suggestions such as even adding more products to provide better effect? dosage? Also how to provide a very long lasting effect (long term)? I would really like to be able to enhance all levels of the brain, memory, recall, speed. Also would anyone recommend a book that helps explains how to enhance all aspects of the brain? Thanks in advanced!! [thumb]

Try your piracetam and see how you do with it. L arginine is not likely to give you a big reaction long as you take a reasonable dose but it's better to try one thing at a time than a bunch all at once. Piracetam is a wonderful cognitive enhancer. It has little to no side effects in most people and is non toxic. It takes from a few days to a few weeks before the effects kick in. Try it and see how you do. Later, you can come back for more suggestions. Think about this, if you took several things for the first time at once and you had a horrible reaction, how would you know what it was that did it?

I will definetly take that into consideration!!! Have you taken piracetam? If so have you added any other supplement to enhance it? If you haven't taken piracetam have you taken any other supplement that works just as well or even better? Can you recommend any supplement or combination of supplments that provides great or greater effects?

I do take piracetam and some choline with it. DMAE would be a good substitute for choline. I haven't found anything that does what pir does let alone better. There are other racetams but they are slightly different, more expensive and less researched. Try piracetam for a few weeks then come back and tell us about it. I think it's great. It does make the effects of other drugs more pronounced so take that into consideration.

Piracetam is good for me. Be aware that you likely will NOT feel any acute effects. In my case it took over a week to detect the effects, and that was mostly in retrospect.

I also enjoy aniracetam. I would not recommend it for you until you have tried piracetam for a month or two. Based on reports, more people respond well to pir than ani. And, as xanadu said, there is more research on piracetam.

I use Alpha GPC to provide my supplemental choline.

Depending on your objectives, I would suggest looking into vinpocetine. For me, it has a more acute effect - it truly wakes up my brain. Subjectively, I would describe it as like the first cup of coffee in the morning - but without the stimulant effects. Just a slight increase in alertness and clarity.

Caveat - things that modulate or alter brain chemicals can and will affect people in an individual way. Some find piracetam gives them more focus, others find it spaces them out and even makes them sleepy. The only way you can know for sure is to try it yourself. YMMV.

How do you know if you need the choline with piracetam? Try it if the piracetam doesn't seem to be having an effect?

gcurrie -- sounds like good advice. Can I ask, as a 'nootropics newbie', whether you have tried supplementing your piracetam with hydergine? Also, what dosage of piracetam did you start off at, and what do you take now? I'd just like to know some more details about your regime, really.

Thanks!

Devonian:

Nootropics dosages, especially for the racetams, seem to vary a lot from person to person - so take that caveat into account.

I take 3-3.5 G per day of piracetam and 1.5 G of aniracetam. I have tried both lower and higher dosages and this seems to be my balance. I cap my racetams with Alpha GPC so that I won't run low on choline. I take about 600 mg of Alpha GPC a day this way.

I currently am evaluating hydergine. On paper, it seems very compatible with piracetam. The jury is still out for me as for it's consistent effects.

I consistently take 30 mg (and up to 50 mg on occasion) of vinpocetine every day.
