Well come on opales -- how many people do you think come to the supplement/nootropic forums, read a few anecdotal reports about this or that supplement -- then decide to blow hundreds (maybe thousands!) of dollars on a supplement(s) that *might* extend life span? And what about those essays in LEF's magazines? About blueberries and brain health? The magical powers of cranberries? I'm not saying these berries are not beneficial to ones health -- however, the science used to draw the conclusions about the effectiveness of supplementation on extending life span in LEF's magazines is sketchy, at best.

Mprize is real science, conducted by real scientists. As far as proven life extension interventions, current data seems to suggest caloric restriction is the way to go. I just don't know if I can handle that -- so I will take the supplements that are supported by the most compelling data. So if I (and everyone else) matched their spending on supplements with donations to Mprize, we'd get the job done a heck of a lot quicker.

I do not know what went wrong with the webcasts uploaded by randolfe here, but they don't work -- as of today. At least the 'cast for Aubrey's speech does not work anymore -- I have not checked the others in a while.

Whoops! I mistakenly mixed up a short blip by Dr. De Grey and this this ~29 minute talk. Anyone interested in aging science should check this video out!

Could not agree more. Those are pretty much the reasons I became a Three Hundred member in the first place.

What is the "Three Hundred" exactly?

People who pledge to donate a total of $25000 to the price, usually over the course of 25 years (ie. $1000/year). Some may give more, like the anynomous dude who donated $1000000 a while back. There is thus far 90 of us, I guess the aim is to get 300 such people which would amount to quite a bit of money.

From MPrize website:
http://www.methusela...thethreehundred

We're looking for a few special individuals and organizations to make a meaningful, but affordable commitment: $1,000 a year, for 25 years, which amounts to $85 a month or $2.75 a day, the equivalent of one visit to Starbucks.

I originally made a $100 donation last year, but decided to convert to Three Hundred member after my monetary situation improved this year (+ I had been ranting so much about superiority of the MPrize over supplement spending in the health forums here so it was the only intellectually honest thing to do)

Well I guess some members could feel somewhat -- justified -- in wasting tons of cash on "life extension" supplements by purchasing from Relentless -- Pete does sponsor the Mprize site.

But I don't think his sponsorship could possibly offset the gains if everyone spent as much money on supplements as they donate to Mprize.

I sell supplements, so I do get them for pretty cheap. If I was to donate $500-$1000 per year that would probably match or exceed what I spend on supplements. I'll do my best to do that. It really depends on what other expenses I have.

Peace.

For the record, I felt superbly proud after signing up for the Three Hundred thing, and still do. Totally recommend it, the best move I have made in years, beats even breaking up with my first girlfriend [thumb]. It would be great to help advance the science behind radical life-extension, but that just ain't happening with me for some time (given my somewhat unrelated profession and educational background, this may eventually change), so this was something I could do and I could do it right now.
