I am a healthy 22/M with slight social anxiety and was wondering if anyone is familiar with Theanine. Some various questions include: effectiveness, dosage required for effect, will my body build up a tolerance to it, dangers, drowsiness... I'm basically looking for something I can take long-term (as opposed to Kava which is recommended on a short term/sporadic basis), and I think a mood-enhancer will perfectly round out my stack. Thanks.

The combination of omega-3 fats and brain anti-oxidant are what cured social anxiety for me. Of course everyone is different.

If the theanine doesn't work for you, look into bacopa or ashwagandha. These to are great for serotonin and GABA (both are great for brain anti-oxidant activity too).

Theanine works good for me, 200mg cap before a bed when i feel too alert to sleep. Or whenever i feel very anxious. For something that's natural and without sides you simply can't beat theanine

That may be good thing. Some people have too much serotonin.

Few years ago I though serotonin is the key to happines. Then I realized serotonin is the key for lethargy. That what benzos and classical antidepressants do.
I like dopamine much better, it gives you desire for life and action and that brings true happines, one that's not artificialy created but is a result of your actions in life.

I get my dopamine boost from Deprenyl and D-Phenylalanine combo. I may add some of CNW's PEA to the mix.

Theanine does little for me. I've been taking 400mg at night with perhaps a bit of drowsyness but I think I've gotten used to it and still don't sleep well. Even 800mg does little for sleep or anxiety. Phenibut always works for anxiety.

I've actually had the opposite effect of being chilled out. It like calmed me down but i felt extremely anxious on it. This was on numerous ocasions, i even poured some out of the cap of a 200mg and still had the same effect. I just ordered some picamilon the other day, and hopefully that works alot better. Oh And the reason it may not work for sleep xanadu is because while increasing GABA it also slightly tweaks your dopamine and that may be why it doesn help for your sleep or even your anxiety. Have you had good results with phenibut? i heard that it could increase anxiety in certain situations.

I buy it at the store :) J/K
I found that deprenyl was best motivator and nootropics/supplement for dopamine.

Theanine increases dopamine levels pretty significantly from what I read. This is what creats that energetic relaxation.

Browse these forums, there is ton of information and feedback on deprenyl. in low "antiaging" doses there really aren't any side effects (noted). at larger doses some experience anxiety, though i didn't have such experience
deprenyl is not addictive and i never heard that anyone ever become dependant on it. you can take it on and off but there's no point in cycling deprenyl. when you find your correct dose just stick to it

Serotonin is supposedly important for memory functions, which is why I'm hesitant to take something (theanine) that supresses it.

serotonin is important for many thing, you should not supress it, just avoid drugs that boost it
i doubt theanine has any memory affecting effects, otherwise it wouldn't be so popular in japan where it's added to many drinks
