How is that data generated as a search term for that coded report?

I don't know, it's one of the stats packages that comes with the website. I guess it pulls search terms from referrer URLs of known search engines.

LOL.

Perhaps a pop up marketing my personal favorite: the "pat robertson leg press?" Think about the amout of cash ImmInst could get by selling spam type ad space from google ads. It would look really ugly and make it unpleasant real quick. But maybe ImmInst could leverage a bit with vendors selling certain products in the highest searches. That is: total targeted advertising and ImmInst could benefit without damaging the appearance of the place. But there is the potential for losing the prestige of the intellectual community here. I have noted the intellectual content of heavily sponsored fora tend to be also heavily degraded. But stuff that appears to be very safe like Phenibut that a sponsor does not sell should be added to their inventory QUICK; otherwise, their $ loss. Do you have the quantitative numbers on those searches? Like x number for phenibut?

Peace.

The numbers were listed, but I trimmed them (IP protection, eh? or is that a trade secret? [hmm]). At any rate, that's only for searches that actually bring people here, and it's not broken out by search engine, which could help a little with targetting.

The "oblivion intelligence" one caught my eye. Oblivion was the topic of our essay contest last year.

The one about the song J'en ai marre is kind of funny.

And who woulda thunk that searching for "interesting facts about the milky way" would lead someone to ImmInst?

Yeah, and the link (which is to our home page) reads:

Websites critical of Alex Chiu

Immortality Institute, an often encountered subject on the forum which receives criticism by the leading members

Search terms for the month of June.

Note the 4th item: cgk733

Each of the items is interesting in its own way.

Interesting....

Tell me a little bit more about the logging of searches.

Is this a log of the searches conducted here at the institute or searches made in google that were referenced to here.

I noticed golden retrievers came in at 34 hits. So does that mean the term goldern retrievers was typed in 34 times?

If so it would be cool to type a particular thing into search, say 50 times, and then when the end of the month came you would see that come up Jay.

I could type "Jay I think you should shave your beard and leave a goaty. Dye the goaty blonde and tie it into a platt. That would be so ghetto!" into the search area 50 times and you would see it when you did the stats.

Wicked!

Those are search strings passed from search engines like google, when people actually click on a link that leads them to Imminst. So the search string actually has to find a link to imminst somewhere in the first few dozen pages of hits to have any chance of showing up.

Cool. I thought that was the case. This stresses the importance of us here at the institute to stay on top of what's going on in the media as a whole.

So typing a message in 50 times to give you a secret little message won't work then jay? Bugger

Ah... I spelled "golden retriever" wrong... such is the reason why this link is high on googles list for the term:

Number 15 is interesting. I don't know why someone would type in "imminst.org" into a search engine instead of just typing it into their browser.

I do it all the time Nate. When you open your browser sometimes the cursor is in the search engine area and not the address bar

Nate you are really good at posting. The above information really made me think twice about how I post. From now on I am going to try and post recent news and take a more general approach to topic headings.

I know this isn't the right thread for this, but I don't feel like creating a new thread at the moment.

I was looking at our stats for July, and it looks like we got a lot of new first-time visitors on July 4th. I guess that celebrating spirit got people thinking about immortality or something...?

The number of hits was nearly double the usual amount, but the number of files and kBytes transferred was not much higher than normal. This implies to me that these were first time visitors, since they probably took a quick look around and otherwise didn't download a lot of data (e.g., topic pages), the way our "regulars" would.

Maybe we should have had some fireworks for them on the front page. :)

or a few weeks before the month of july start a topic in the open forum titled "Fireworks and immortality' then when people type in fireworks a link to immint.org may appear.

"Easter Bunny Lives forever"

"Santa Claus. Proof that we can live forever"

"Buy your Mom some nootropics for Mothers day"

"50-75% sale on everything in our nanotechnology range"

Surely these would bring some people here [thumb]

Listen up, America. There needs to be a lot more doin' it. A lot more love making. A lot more of the old no-pants-dance. Sure it's really easy to get pregnant, but it's also really easy to not get pregnant. So wear those condoms, swallow those birth control pills, and keep on porkin'. For the kids.

Ben Goertzel sent me this one...

Rock and roll.

Okay, the sex jokes are funny, but I think you two need to continue this discussion in the off-topic lounge or free speech. Yeah, you know who you are!
