This seems to me to be a big step toward molecular manufacturing.
By bombarding carbon nanotubes with electrons they collapsed with enough force to squeeze a 9nm iron wire to 2nm and extrude it in the process. It also creates enough force to produce diamond. This is some amazing stuff.
