as you guys can see, my regimen has decreased drastically since the last time i posted it. ive tried alot of things... finding some to be effective, some not and some to have opposite effects... i happen to be one of the few that does not respond well to mouthfulls of synthetic substances, things like alcar & rla actually make me feel pretty crappy for whatever reason.

so ill go over my regimen, but also some dietary and lifestyle habbits ive aquired that i think are extremely beneficial to general health & the life extension crew.

RECENT ADDITIONS (6/27/06 edit)
nutribiotic rice protein (because of super clean processing & to add diversity to my protein intake)
jarrow pomegranate juice concentrate
switch from ON whey to jarrow whey (because of vegetarian suitable processing)
switched from invite multi back to pioneer 1+ (invite is too costly)
switch from flax to nutiva hemp seed oil (because of gla, stearidonic acid, and vitamin-E content)

wakeup(30 mins before breakfast):

solaray guarana 200 mg (50% caffeine): 3 caps
gaia herbs adrenal health: 2 caps

with breakfast:

pioneer 1+ : 2 caps
nature's way primadophilus bifidus: 1 cap
nutiva hemp seed oil: 1 TBSP

in between breakfast and lunch:

banyan botanicals blood cleanse: 1-2 pills
green magma: 1 TBSP

in between lunch and dinner:

banyan botanicals blood cleanse: 1-2 pills
green magma: 1 TBSP

before bed:
banyan botanicals blood cleanse: 1 pill
organic triphala: 1 tsp (either in a cap or made into tea)

occasional use:
pioneer cal/mag: 1-2 tabs
muscle milk naturals
jarrow whey
heel traumeel: 1 tab
solgar tyrosine: 1 cap
various stimulants when needed (although the gaia adrenal health has basically eradicated my need for stimulants other than morning caffeine)

things that will be added when finances allow:
sabinsa bacopin

and 2394872394872349872349283742 vcaps [lol]

now for the interesting part:

ayurveda... ive found that when i adhere moderatly to ayurvedic dietary guidelines i feel amazing. modern science is validating alot of what ayurvedic physicians said 3000 years ago, and i think its worth everyones time to look into it if even just on a basic level.

dont over-eat... [accorcing to ayurveda] over-eating allows undigested food particles to pass into places they should not be and/or be absorbed into the bloodstream. you find this exact thing happens with certain food allergies... wheat gluten and lactose specifically, by-passing digestion totally or being absorbed whole and causing any number of symptoms/diseases. ive found over-eating will increase lethargy & depression, decrease certain cognative functions & motivation, cause digestive upset, and aggrivate my acne...

spicing food... another ayurvedic principle. certain spices increase enzyme production & digestive function. fennel, corriander, cumin, ginger & black pepper being the most effective spices. i either cook with these spices, or add them to my water during meals. the difference when i dont use them is night and day... my digestion moves along faster, my stools are more solid & regular, less digestive upset. i buy all my spices in bulk from banyanbotanicals.com. their prices are good, and their spices & herbs are HPLC verified for actives, tested for heavy metals & microbial contamination.

dont over-drink... i never drink more than 16 ounces of water with a meal(30minutes before, during, or 1 hour after) (which dilutes stomach acid) and never drink ice cold water (which causes the stomach to contract). same benefits as spicing food. although in between meals i drink water like its going out of style [tung] nearly a galon a day. i also drink atleast a liter of naturally highly alkaline water (trinity gold label or fiji) per day. i know some people will call BS on the PH thing, but i notice a marked improvement in my acne from it.

meditation... a consitant and effective meditation practice is imo, one of the best things you can do to improve the quality and length of your life. after a few months of consitant practice the benefits of meditation will spill over into normal waking life... after 6 months of meditating for 20 minutes every day, i found that my reactions to stressful events were more peacefull, i was less easily aggrivated and angered, i was more compassionate & accepting, had more energy, & was sharper mentally. i prefer to meditation before bed because it increases the depth of sleep and i wake up alot more refreshed.

toiletries... i use only 'natural' toiletries. my toothpaste, shampoo, facial products & soap contain no funky chemicals. skin & the mouth are two of the most penetrable and absorbant areas on the body. to think you are not absorbing the chemicals in your toothpaste or soap is rediculous... yes the exposure is minute, but minute exposure over long periods of time = problems. jason & aubrey organics are my brands of preference.

food... i try to keep processed food to a bare minimum. no flour, no breads, no chips, artificials(sweeteners, flavors, colors), etc. nearly everything i eat is a whole food, freshly cooked, and organic. i also try to eat atleast 2-3 of my top 5 (there was personal top 5 thread around here somewhere) every day. i also try to drink a big glass of fresh juice a few times a week (1 baby bok choi, 2 carrots, 4 ribs celery, 1 large apple, & ginger is my favorite)

ill add more later with edit marks when i think of them :)

You always have links to some interesting products. I don't know anything about the ayurvedic herbs in those products, other than the Adrenal Health, so I won't comment on them.

Didn't you make some posts about trying to quit caffeine before? Swapping over to chocamine, or something?

Seems like a very healthy regime, also considering your dietary habits.
You take care of your organs very well, this is a solid anti-aging therapy IMO.

Where's the 5-HTP? [lol]

Interesting regime, therefore much to gain for others, thanks!

One issue however is that taking the probiotics with your breakfast might not be to effective? I take the stuf (ocasionally) right after wake-up. And I make sure to be in a vertical position until about half an hour later to optimize the quick passing of the stuff through the stomach to the place it belongs. But maybe that's a bit overdone. Anyway, on an empty stomach seems to be best.

ive actually found that taking my probiotic with food is much more effective... although the one i take is enteric coated, which saved it from the floods of stomach acid during the first 30 minutes of digestion. if it was NOT enteric coated, i would defintly go for the empty stomach. i believe [as discussed in the jarrow thread] that food acts as a carrier and distributer of the bacteria.

yea, i found the invite stuff by accident at vitamin shoppe. i had run out of the pioneer and wasnt able to get any, so i went searching and found that one... its expensive (30$/30servings), but for a basic multi the ingredient profile is amazing... all usp grade, etc etc.

if you add hot water to good quality organic triphala (ill mail u some if you wanna try it), it brings out the sweetness and is quite pleasant.... although anything over 1/2 teaspoon per 8oz of water will become bitter. i usually just take it in a cap though.

i like it. its rather unique in the way its processed and the nutrients it contains

no... its called adrenal health, but the reason i use it has nothing to do with that. 300mg caffeine isnt putting much stress on anything imo... its equiv to a mug of coffee, but the caffeine in guarana is absorbed more slowly. so its a slow up and slow down, not huge up and crash like coffee.

its a rhodiola/holy basil/ashwagandha combo that i find to have a TON of benefits...i started taking it as i was trying to quit caffeine altogether(which failed), and i noticed a marked effect on my mood & social abilities... so i kept it up, and noticed even more benefits (my energy levels, reponse to fatigue and stress, mental sharpness)

Hempoil has the ideal omega 3:6 ratio which is great if that is the only fat in your diet. For those of us (most) who get other omega 6 fats in our diet, sticking to flax/fish is preferable. GLA supp is recommended and can be taken seperately.

My 3 cents (inflation)

hemp contains a pretty good amount of stearidonic acid, which is readily converted to EPA... much more readily that ALA which is dependant on the d6d enzyme.

i also do not eat alot of fat :)

What kind of meditation do you practice? I find it most relaxing to sit by the ocean and watch the waves crash up against the shoreline...That's very meditative. One of my favorite local beaches to go to relax is Ocean Beach. I believe OB's pier stretches out farther on the ocean than any other in the entire state of California. A very friendly town too. pretty picture :) nothing like that around here (nj)!!

i practice yoga breathing exercises and meditation... so its meditation in a traditional sence... very formal. but VERY effective on inducing deep meditative states, not just simple relaxation.

I understand your reasoning in not using fish oil but I'm surprised you don't use bacopa. You don't need the concentrate, just take some powdered root every day. I buy it by the pound and it's not much, around $15 or so. I'm also surprised you don't use ashwaganda. Did you see the monograph zoo posted recently? Piracetam is another good one.

Ohhhh! I think I remember that. If I'm making the right mental link, I made the same decision only to come to the board later in that day to find you'd done the same. I'm another to add to the list of those who tried and failed at that time. At least I've managed to maintain a dramatically lessened dose though, which I can perhaps over time learn to rationalise as a resounding victory.

same here... ive lessened the dose drastically. but dammit i just cant stop using caffeine... especially if i dont get enough sleep the night before. ive come to accept that during my college life i will have to use caffeine...guarana also has some neuroprotective benefits, so thats another way i rationalize the use.

Thanks! My digital camera is currently broken...here is a shot of one of my friends from OB during a beach/block party last week. This is the kind of party I like...
