I've just started experimenting with moisturisers / creams myself, mostly due to my daughter's eczema. This is what I have mixed yesterday:
- 60g extra virgin olive oil
- 60g Shea butter
- 60g linseed (flaxseed) oil (important to have it fresh and after opening to store it in the fridge, as unstable; this is in fact the main, most important ingredient)
- 10g beeswax
- a few drops of vit E to extend shelf life
Warmed up just so beeswax can melt (~65C), so ingredients can mix properly.
Quite greasy just after application, but 'dries' out quite quickly or excess can be wiped out; moisturises skin and forms a protective film on the skin against elements; most importantly enhances regenerative abilities of the skin.
EDIT:
Storage: Without using vitamine E best kept in the fridge and used within 2-4 weeks. Best to make small batches and properly store the cream and ingredients, as especially oils (particularly flaxseed oil) are fragile in contact with oxygen.
Cost: I think ingredients worth ~£20 will be enough for 1 year, and will be too much for just face. ~£20 will be enough for a 1 year family pack
