Wow, they really need to redesign that site if they want to hook first time visitors that know nothing about it.

Yeah, the site does need a redesign. But the site does have a very respectable amount of data. My only issue is that while the SAB has exploded in size, the members/support hasn't. Michael has done a few radio shows lately, though. With so many ambitions, Lifeboat really needs more publicity.

Yeah, there is quite a lot of info I have been searching around looking at stuff. I also listened to the two radio shows Michael was on.

I wish them all the best, because they seem to be doing a great thing.

Put me down as for staying out of outer space and for recolonizing earth with a new, more advanced, form of communal living. We need to first solve the serious characterological problem of man here on earth before exporting it to outer space where it will again become a serious problem.

Michael Anissimov actually made the same point when that new "earthlike" planet was discovered a few weeks ago. (of course not about communal living, but about needing to focus on taking care of our planet, solving the problems here, etc) These types of thoughts seem a lot to me like saying "we should focus on solving poverty and not disease". Why can we not focus on more than one thing at once? It seems to me that we are broad enough as a species to focus on several things at once, and do not need to worry about only one solution or another.

As a side note: Elijah, I just saw the TED talk the other day by James Howard Kunstler. (can be viewed here) He makes a lot of points that I thought were very good about how we need to reform communities through lots of different means. (architecture and others) He made lots of good points I think, which would go a long way towards solving a lot of the things wrong with the way our cities are structured now. I would encourage others to watch it.

Thanks for the link to the TED video Live Forever! I'm watching it now. He's basically making the case for communal living. As things get worse, it should become more and more obvious that this is the only direction possible.

What I find amazing about Stephen Hawking is how despite being a seriously crippled man, he "ran off" with his attractive nurse (not the one pictured), while already married to a woman who is said to have really loved him. I would have thought his physical problems would have made him repulsive to women (especially attractive ones) but I guess his combination of great intellect, global fame and being relatively wealthy proved a winning one. I have a feeling he may be quite the silver-tongued devil with the aid of his voice synthesizer. ; )

Oh come on! There is more need to travel to space than that

I used to have a crush on Stephan Hawking, how he overcame so much, his brilliance... I'd heard there were problems in his marriage before he cheated on his wife, I suppose being crippled while having a fully functional brain, must affect one's psychology-- making attention/help quite attractive in itself--you would want to get as much as you can.

That said, we all do it to some extent. Those who live with chronic pain or disability have a different mind/set, and can be propelled to needing more validation/attention/help.
