New class of diabetes drugs

According to this article, DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4) inhibitors -- which apparently reduce blood sugar with no side effects -- will soon be available for people who have or are at risk for diabetes.

Any potential for life-extending effects here?

On a related note, I'd be interested to hear about anyone who's been taking metformin for a year or more. What has your experience been (pro or con)?

I've hear bad stuff about metformin (bad sides). But I think new generation of diabetes drugs will be main life extension drugs. Basically better insulin management - longer life span
